I agree that it can be a bigger problem too high than a little bit low. I have lowered mine some. I have two BCMs out & more pipping right now. I am going to Costco when it opens (I must be crazy.........LOL) & will keep checking throughout the day. I wish there was a set formula & I would use it but I just keep doing trial & error & there are so many variables. I wish money was no object & I would have 10 Brinseas 20Xs with the cradle & humidity module..............Yeah right....what are they about $399 a piece plus $159 each for the humidity module?????? That way each hatch would have it'sown little world to live in for the total incubation period. I would love that kind of control......

yeah well, remember there are plenty of ppl who incubate in LGs and make it work

Im going to do 2 hatches at once w/ my own eggs to see if I can get a better rate. I will have 2 different systems going, and will chart everything. Now lets see if Im organized enough to do this, after July, Im going to start breeding the silkies and dont want to take any chances with those eggs.

Margarete,
Do your Silky hens go broody or do you just not give them the chance? Mine do a fine job of hatching & then I steal the babies to brood them in the porch with the others. I lose very few this way.

I always have at least one Broody Silkie. We can try sticking eggs under her if you want.
Have a nice 4th of July. I have people coming from the Bay Area to get chicks at noon & we are having a BBQ swim day. You know you are welcomed anytime. We have no teenagers here but my daughter & her family live in their place out back & we have lots going on all the time.

you have a great 4th too! thanks for the offer to come over, but too busy here! DH is working, and I need to hotwire some fencing for the horses and finish my yardwork from yesterday before it gets really hot.

One SIlver Dorking had bad legs & died so I ended up with 3 chicks from 2 shipments of eggs & Wynette's ended up with 4 BCMs hatched out & NO OEs hatched at all. She said her big eggs sometimes take an extra day or so so I left them in there for now. Ended up selling a flat of hatching eggs to the couple from the Bay Area. Her first time trying & with a borrowed LG.......Good luck to her. I gave her all my tips & warned her not to betoo disappointed & expect 1/2 cockerels. I hate them to get too excited & has a poor hatch burst their bubble. I have developed a shell & almost expect a poor hatch & am happy when it turns out better than expected.
Another hot one today & I am already sunburned.....LOL
