One of my silkies has something wrong. It is breathing very shallow and every so often it acts as if it is gagging. It doesn't appear to have anything stuck in its throat but has been standing completely still on my kitchen floor for almost four hours. We have been researching here on BYC and just can't find anything that helps. My 14 year old son looked up "choking chicken" which obviously didn't help either. ;). Any advise? I hate to just let it sit here and suffer to death.

Gape worms? How is the crop?

She could have been injured too. Keep her warm and see how she is in the morning.

Keep us posted and maybe Deb or someone will jump on and help too.

The crop seems full, but is not hard. This happened before when it was maybe 8 Weeks and during that time there was a ton of food suck in its mouth so we used a syringe and kept spraying it out and trying to massage it down and it got better within half an hour.
This time it seemed to happen out of nowhere, and we don't see any food.

She could have been pecked in the head. Look that up, I can't remember what it is vit b?? But swelling I'll make them still.

Hope she gets better.

I just had a little marans pullet pass from a seizure she's been in a coma ( or whatever chickens have) all day. I nursed her back from the first one but this time she didn't wake.

Oh no, maybe. It was out with the big girls today. And it is starting to look like a lot of feathers are missing, especially off the top, although there are a lot of pin feathers coming in. This one doesn't have a vaulted skull though, at least.
