When we first got chickens I swore I'd never have a rooster. Now I'll never go without one.

Adorable!
Gorgeous green eggs!

Super egg color!
I totally agree with Happy Chooks. I get so much enjoyment watching how the roosters interact with the girls, I can't imagine my flock without them. I wish everyone who is allowed roos would give em a try. There are sooo many nice roosters out there needing homes. I always feel sooo bad when I have to give a good boy to my rooster guy.

These are AWEsome!

I cleaned up coops today too! Gotta get ready for the next wave of rain!

My fingers are stiff from the cold and I bet I will sleep good tonight! Tomorrow I will tackle the last of the little grow out pens. Lots of work being and urban chicken keeper....And after sending crowers to freezer camp I swear one of the two OEs I hatched from Chiqitas eggs tried to crow yesterday. I thought I would have at least a bit of time before more of those showed up here...

Did the same here. I dug out large wheelbarrow loads from each of the 2 coops. I am so sore. Fresh bedding all around for both coops though. Whew!

Hello,

I recently joined BYC and was directed to this thread by Cooper12 - got caught by those chick pictures of the Arkansas Blues - had to read that whole thread.. they are such cute chicks!

I live above Jackson, CA and I WISH I could have peacocks! My mother has some and keeps telling me she can give me one or two - but I think the peacock call might scare the neighborhood - it sounds like a baby crying or somebody calling for help.. and it is very loud. I have 9 roosters already - the neighbors are being very nice when they go into crowing contests. I do know that peafowl don't bother the chickens at all - but keep them away from GEESE! If you want a funny goose vs peacock story .. let me know - its a real story and I was there to see it!
WELCOME to BYC and the the NorCal thread!

Wow Amy Beth! What a lucky shot getting that egg on it's way out! The last one where the hen is walking off like "Ha! I finished first!" So cute. I love when my girls line up to lay in the same spot. There's always one who thinks she can't wait and tries to get in with the others.
Ah geez, you show me these right after I say how much I love blues....AND they lay blue eggs!!!
It's cracking me up. I haven't been spending as much time with them lately but the past couple days I have spent about 30 minutes a day just watching. I'm a nerd. They are fun to watch. There is actually drama happening all the time if we stop to watch. LOVE the blue and green eggs. Oh goodness. I can't wait to breed my Marans to my EEs. :D

they lay a cream color egg are auto sexable
and breed true.

so opinions Please , what do you all think
I am still not up on SOPs but I like his shape and they look like a fair dual purpose. The feathering is pretty!

That is awesome you got a picture of her in action... So Cool!
I thought it was cool. I think I may have grossed out some Facebook friends though. hehe Maybe an overshare? LOL

Zoowee-- I have a question, how do you get such GREAT photos of your chickens?? Mine are always moving their heads or blinking!!

With my cell phone I am careful to choose the best lighting angles. More light = faster shutter speed so the camera will snap faster. Getting fewer eye blinks and and head blur. And I take several shots of each 'pose' so I can choose which one has opened eyes and clearest shot overall. With my big girl camera it's cake because I can set all those settings and not worry about it. I love my iPhone camera. It's really awesome for a point and shoot.

Zooweemama had the #3 most ovation post yesterday for her egg laying sequence!

Woohoo! Yay someone appreciated my chicken butt fresh pic! hehe

Have to share this sign my daughter got me for Christmas! I said I wanted some chicken stuff to hang on my coops but I think this one will go in my store to advertise my eggs. The other sign is for Rooster Brand Coffee and shows a rooster crowing and says "Wake the Hell Up!"!
I love this sign so much! hehe

A friend offered to buy a few of my Gary (black copper marans roo) pictures (some have Betty in them too). She plans on printing them out for her kitchen?? I was so flattered! Made my day!

Has anyone used any of The R-Com incubator's?
Fairly fool proof? quality?
Yes, I borrowed one from a friend and yes they are very easy to use. The temp and humidity are digital and accurate. Clean up is also super easy. Unfortunately, we had a power outage when I was using it and the temp dropped quickly. They have no insulation. I had my hova bators running at the same time and when I came home (two hours after outage) and discovered to power outage the Hovabators were still at 80 degrees and the Rcom was at 60. I had about a 50% hatch rate from the r-com and 90%

That's good to know. I am going to be buying a small bator this to practice this Spring.
