The other SFH has no comb either. So I have no opinion on those. I give the second Marans about an 80% chance of being a girl. They can be tricksy, I DO see some pink on the bottom of that chin.
I have to go look up SFH's now...

Agreed on the Rooster.
I lost 2 to a hawk but they where super protective of there hens and had I not had them who knows how many more hens would of been lost.
A good Rooster is Gold.
I love seeing my welsummer rooster call to the girls and stick himself out there with the attitude of "I'm big, you just try it!" to protect his girls. I have not lost a single hen out of that coop since he has been there. (and it's NOT covered) He is the best rooster anyone could ask for.

The girls are kicking it into gear...

Nice! Ummmm. do you light your coop? I only got 3 eggs today from 30 hens. I'm going to have to have "the talk" with them about paying their way.

Have to share this sign my daughter got me for Christmas! I said I wanted some chicken stuff to hang on my coops but I think this one will go in my store to advertise my eggs. The other sign is for Rooster Brand Coffee and shows a rooster crowing and says "Wake the Hell Up!"!
Nice sign! Love it!
Has anyone used any of The R-Com incubator's?
Fairly fool proof? quality?
Nope, but I do have a Brinsea that is foolproof and a Hovabator (requires a bit of tweeking, especially with weather changes). I know you have Ron, but if you need someone else to hatch for you, I can hatch in my Brinsea for you. I'm in Auburn most days and can meet you.

A friend offered to buy a few of my Gary (black copper marans roo) pictures (some have Betty in them too). She plans on printing them out for her kitchen?? I was so flattered! Made my day!

Quote: I agree - pair on top and pullet below. They are adorable.

The Marans on the left? She is definitely getting some pink under her chin.
The SFH does have a comb, you can see it better in this photo..

Thanks Kelly I have a foam GQF I just got back from my boss. I was just thinking a nicer bator would yield better hatches on these rare hatching eggs I am buying in.
My wife is about to strangle me

OH yes, but very tiny. I just don't know how big they get. Everyones combs are small compared to Marans so I get confused. And yeah, its the pink on both chins that worries me. If you ended up with 2 roos I should know who is a hen by stockton, if you are going.
