OK, question. I have some Marans and ee ( probably all roos now) born on Nov 27. They are flying and getting out of the brooder and I'm afraid they will eat something in the garage since they are sneaky and getting out of the cover. I had one of the last batch do that and pass.
Do you think it is safe to put them outside? It has been very cold. They have a mother, but they are too big to sit under sparkles the mini silkie. ( like not even one could fit under her. They would be 6.5 weeks old now. They are feathered on the top, have not inspected the belly.
Someone picked up my 2 button quail I have been trying to rehome because they hate it at my house and they wont lay. he seemed very happy, and so am I! NOthing worse then birds that don't like your house, and now I don't have to leave the light in the workshop on all day for them.
I think they will be fine outside, as long as they have a place to go to get out of any wind. Once they start flying around (which was probably about 5 weeks!) I put them outside - with a box coop they can go into if they get cold. After the second week they didn't even want the heat lamp on at night any more.
