The showgirl roos are a little mode rambunctious then a reg silkie. One of them we got back was aggressive the rest are fairly docile. They can free range now but depending on your preditor situation you may have issues fr silkies. They are not the brightest of chickens.

Good to see you tonight!
Chiqita, this made me laugh....I'm thinking to myself, "Of course the showgirl roosters are more rambunctious! They can actually SEE while they're trying to mate!"

My little silkie rooster did the mating dance to a tree trunk the other day.

And, the part about the silkies not being the brightest is true too. Although in their defense, they really do have trouble seeing past those big beards and crests.

I know that we have predator problems but get this!

I sent an email to Black Diamond Ranch to ask them if they were going to have hatching eggs this season and got this reply:

I am not sure we have had several thousand wolves the past 2 summers migrating through

Are there even several thousand wolves in all of the US? That sounds like an awful lot. I thought there was only a couple hundred in all of Yellowstone...

.... where are they going?.....

LOVE the snow pictures!!! no snow here, just cold. but not quite as brutal as last night felt, so perhaps things are changing? still covered up the lemon tree again...

i was gone at meetings all afternoon and evening, just got home -- Amelia is still a bit puffy-looking but seemed, with my brief visit, less utterly-dejected-looking -- still in the garage with the heatlamp on her for the night. hopefully she's hit her low point and will now start getting better, at whatever pace...

and i wasn't home most of the day, but the other kids all seemed fine this morning, full of beans as usual -- all annoyed that i wasn't letting them out to free-range but then delighted by the offerings of yogurt and mealworms. if only it was always that easy to win someone over...

and sorry, but "several thousand wolves" is gigantic hyperbole -- the strongest "core" population is in the Yellowstone ecosystem and that's between 200-400 individuals. several thousand is just crazy talk.
