i do not know her personally, nor have i gotten chicks from her, but this person who runs Napa Backyard Chickens lists blue andalusians for sale: http://www.napabackyardchickens.com/index.html
While I've been a member of BYC for a few years, it's been awhile since I've been "here". Took a bit of a break from incubating and hatching chickens and turkeys, but just set a tray of eggs last Friday.
Eve! Long time no see! So nice to see you post. Took a break from incubating? How is that done?
Hey, I finally got my girl. Well, make that girl(s)! Chica and Loca turned one on New Year's Eve. Still have Stuart and Louis too. I love them all. We moved again in November a bit further up Hwy 49. I bought the 120 year old farmhouse that used to own all the acreage that eventually became Lake of the Pines. I had shelters built for the goats, emus, and donkeys. I also had five coops built. I lost all my turkeys to a raccoon the night before we were to move them over. So sad because they were the sweetest things on Earth!
I would love to see you if you are up this way. I'll PM you my new phone number and email. Don't be a stranger!
Mary
oops I posted in the wrong box. Still learning to use this fancy ipad Michael got me for Valentine's Day!
I'm about midway between Placerville and Jackson and have Midget White and Bourbon Red turkeys, BCM's, Barnevelders, Ameraucanas, and olive eggers. Oh, emus too.
It's great to see so many posts from local people!
I named my rooster Rocky. he was attacked and survived and is now better than ever.
This egg is nice. Post it on the Dark egg and rare breed threads if you can. plus olive egger threads. Tired about hearing how people are better using Marans. Not in California or the hot states I say.
My Partridge Pene has a lot of missing skin on her head and below the vent. I have been spraying with Vetericyn for two weeks now and today she laid her first egg!
No infection, it does take time for them to grow the skin back though.
Thanks Ron and Deb for this idea (and also Ali for the blukote idea); I will try the feed store today and look for the gel Vetericyn; Its also good to hear some survival stories!
On a happier note - why raise ducks? Is it because they are friendly? Do the eggs taste better?
