My Partridge Pennedesenca pullet laid her first egg today! I almost missed it in the Dog kennel she is recovering in from the chicken attack.

The egg on the left is from Miranda the Blue Marans. The one on the right is the P Penne egg:

I might have to give her a tough name since she is a survivor:

Hello chicken peeps!

While I've been a member of BYC for a few years, it's been awhile since I've been "here". Took a bit of a break from incubating and hatching chickens and turkeys, but just set a tray of eggs last Friday.

Eve! Long time no see! So nice to see you post. Took a break from incubating? How is that done?

Hey, I finally got my girl. Well, make that girl(s)! Chica and Loca turned one on New Year's Eve. Still have Stuart and Louis too. I love them all. We moved again in November a bit further up Hwy 49. I bought the 120 year old farmhouse that used to own all the acreage that eventually became Lake of the Pines. I had shelters built for the goats, emus, and donkeys. I also had five coops built. I lost all my turkeys to a raccoon the night before we were to move them over. So sad because they were the sweetest things on Earth!

I would love to see you if you are up this way. I'll PM you my new phone number and email. Don't be a stranger!

Mary

oops I posted in the wrong box. Still learning to use this fancy ipad Michael got me for Valentine's Day!

I'm about midway between Placerville and Jackson and have Midget White and Bourbon Red turkeys, BCM's, Barnevelders, Ameraucanas, and olive eggers. Oh, emus too.

It's great to see so many posts from local people!

I named my rooster Rocky. he was attacked and survived and is now better than ever.
This egg is nice. Post it on the Dark egg and rare breed threads if you can. plus olive egger threads. Tired about hearing how people are better using Marans. Not in California or the hot states I say.

Closest I've ever come to having a Rainbow Basket! (Duck eggs are included in this pic though.

Are the duck eggs the chocolate color? Pretty cool and that's what my egg basket looks like too (minus the duck eggs) lol

X2!

My Partridge Pene has a lot of missing skin on her head and below the vent. I have been spraying with Vetericyn for two weeks now and today she laid her first egg!

No infection, it does take time for them to grow the skin back though.

Thanks Ron and Deb for this idea (and also Ali for the blukote idea); I will try the feed store today and look for the gel Vetericyn; Its also good to hear some survival stories!

On a happier note - why raise ducks? Is it because they are friendly? Do the eggs taste better?

Jason, I candled your eggs yesterday... Looks like a least 14 a growing. Maybe a few more, it's hard to see through those beautiful dark eggs..

OK, lets play NAME THAT CHICK!

This was a pain to try and figure out how to do it.

It is going to be backwards. The first ones are the questionables, then the lots of ones I THINK I know.

The total of chicks are
welsummers 9
barevelers 1 ( if there are 2 I made a mistake yesterday...)
Cream legbars 6
Silver leghorns 8

I have someone waiting for me to ID legbars, and pet rock wants some wellies so those are the most urgent id's.

Ok, I guess CL boy
