I'll remove this if it bothers anyone. Here was our sweet baby.

My daughter (6 years old) wrote this poem for her:

Babe
Cluck Cluck Cluck
at the meadow's end
Cluck Cluck Cluck
says the chick at dusk

Winter is Cool and Summer is warm
but oh what a beautiful place Spring is.
What a precious poem and such a sweet looking chick. Thank you for sharing the photo and the poem with us.

Yes, what PetRock and others have said.

So sorry the little one didn't make it. The devotion you gave to her is more than it's own mother would have done. She was given the best care and love for her short time here.

There is a learning curve for all incubators, but it is not terribly hard. They key is to have it in a place that is safe, keeps a vaugly stable temperture, and have decent equipment. And know no all your eggs will match and don't stress. ( unless you get a brinsea, those things will hatch golf balls into mini clubs)

Orlando, my cream leg bar too just came to dace at the back door. He is telling you to have his babies! If only I had my camera.....
LOL have his babies

Our sweet baby died

She seemed like she was doing so much better, so we went to the feed store to get her a friend before they closed and when we came back she was on her back again, dead. And the two we picked up for her are both sick, too! One was trampled in the corner (think it's circling the drain, sadly) and the other seems like it might make it. I thought, hey, at least they wont trample her. Guess I should have just gotten lively ones. I'm sure if the one dies they'll give me a different one, though. It was my choice, and all the others looked healthy. The worst part is, I think I'll always wonder if maybe she got too hot and couldn't move. If we had stayed home she might have been okay.

I'd like to post a black and white picture I took of her before we buried her, but I don't want to bother anyone so you all let me know if that would be alright. It isn't graphic, of course. Just sad. She was so tiny, it looked like she was curled up back in the egg.

I am so sorry she didn't make it. You tried, and you did more for her than she would have had if she had been left at the feed store. Do not second guess yourself, your being gone did not make her pass, she just wasn't strong enough to stay. I recently lost 9 shipped chicks and your daughter's poem made me cry. I didn't cry when they died, and I didn't cry when I buried them. I was home, and I watched every one pass - and nothing I did saved them. Some just aren't meant to stay - no matter how hard you wish for them to do so.

The rooster mobile is loaded!
Tomorrow is Small Animal Field Day for 4-H. I've got 4 roos and 6 girls ready to go. Chicks will be loaded tomorrow morning. Should be quiet here tomorrow morning. I left 1 roo here, can't let DH get used to not having someone crowing. He wanted to know when I got the rooster in the cage out front today, it was a partridge rock hen crowing for the rest of her flock.
