The suspect Roo is an Olive egger (Blue or splash maran hen X blue Isbar rooster). It has gotten bigger than the other one and the comb is bigger and the little nubs on the legs are bigger.
Shantih - I told you Clementine decided to name her Marans Willie (after Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, for obvious reasons) and today she was holding her and this is her direct quote "I hope we never get rid of Willie, because I love her so much and she brings me so much joy." We haven't named the other two silkies yet, but Russia is doing well. They are such beautiful chicks! It's amazing. Willie's shape is just gorgeous.
It is wonderful that she hatches! Help her out--get her a good thermometer and a hygrometer, especially if she is hatching Marans. They really do better on the dryer side. She may need a better candler if she does that with the students. Good for you getting the eggs for her too
I ask before I give legs if they candle! Lol. They have a few of the little Icelandic eggs they are easy to candle. If I accidently slipped them showgirls I will die! Or steal them back!!
I like that smiley! The 2nd grade class next to my daughters did a hatch in February with a rented Genesis from 4H that had the two smaller windows. She put a regular ole thermometer on the eggs for temps and away they went. They were hand turning too, which means on the weekend they just let them go for TWO HOLE DAYS with nothing! No turning, no checking, no water refills.... in February too, it was still kind of cold! *Gasp* And out of about 9 eggs, 6 hatched. So I am thinking less is more in some cases and all of us on here are REALLY interested in our eggs doing well, so we are all a little obsessive. On the other hand IF we had been watching, hovering, adjusting, candling, etc. like I am prone to do, then maybe one or two more or maybe all of them would have hatched. OR god forbid..... less would have hatched!!! We will never know for sure.
The point of that observation was just to share what I witnessed, and in the end it was a good learning experience for the class too! I second the Ron is super helpful comment!!! Well since you are a few days before me, then I guess I have to live vicariously through you! I also have shipped and non shipped eggs. I am at the boring, I can't touch stage until at the earliest this Sunday. I need three more spaces to put my eggs so they all have a spot in the turner. Do you think it is safe getting rid of any that look like they are not developing at that time? Or is it too soon? Congrats for your son! I know nothing about Tennis but it all sounds good!
Hey guys! Quick question. I'm going to buy a heat lamp today for my chicks, who will be here around the 1st of May. Do I need both the white & red bulbs? Or just red?
May I ask you guys a question please? Are white silkie chickens yellow or white as a chick? does anyone have any photos they could show me? Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the help all those who replied. Got my fingers crossed that the feed store will get silkies tomorrow! Do you guys know if it's more common for a feed store to sell a bearded or non bearded silkie? TY again.
