Thanks Ron and Chiqita! I had thought it would have worked out - the duck eggs were due the 20th and the chicken eggs 2 days after. I thought maybe the moisture would have been done because it was only a couple days around lockdown anyway. I wasn't counting on having to lockdown in the duck eggs this early. Which messed my "plans" up.

I have hot spots in my bator and I need to run a test hatch after I get some more equipment. I am thinking of running some TJs eggs so I won't sacrifice my own eating eggs...is there another way to test out a hatch dr hot spots and temps?

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H7/H9. My husband bought it for me a few years ago. I know it's not something pros would use but would like to be able to learn how to use it to get the best shots possible with this equipment. I never use the manual settings because I don't know how.

Re: broodies.... I finally had a hen go broody on the floor of the main coop. When she would get up, the other chickens would scatter her eggs. So, she quit. I've had broodies quit when I moved them, but next time that's what I'm going to do.

Looked it up. That will do nicely! Pshh I don't even have a "pro" camera. You should be able to get the shots you see in your mind's eye with that camera after a little training. :)

on the biopsy......
Well that stinks. Where did you get your eggs from? Anyway, I am home this Sat and Sun if you wanna come get them if you need too. As for keeping them in the house.... I am just not sure. They do stink on the shavings, and I threw in a couple handfuls of the Sweet PDZ two nights ago and mixed it in with fresh shavings and they loved kicking it all up an rolling around in it. I thought one was dead, but no, it was just in a hole dust bathing in the shavings and PDZ and letting the others walk all over it.

NOW, because of my genius thought to add the PDZ for smell control, I have a light layer of dust EVERYWHERE! The entire laminate floor is covered in dust! DOH! Just made more work for myself dusting and mopping!

I got them from Capital City Poultry & Livestock in Kansas off Ebay :( I got 20 & 13 were from my new layers... My grandma's funeral is on Saturday, but Sunday might be perfect!! :) You are so kind & loving. I just never expected anything like what you are doing just because I needed to vent a little. You are an angel. With yours & Chiqita's help, my quail operation will be rolling fast!!
Can you PM me your number so I can contact you directly? I'm still hoping for those others, but I only put them back because they were dark enough not to glow... I opened all the ones I tossed & nobody developed past an eyeball :(

True dat. Half the time I only use my iPhone!

My 3Gs isn't quite up for that. It's previous owner scratched the lens pretty good. But yeah, I only have a Nikon D5000 right now, hardly a pro body camera! And now it's like 3 years dated and they don't even make it anymore!

So, you gonna come down from Redding and visit Molly's Chicken Disneyland with us?

It's only a three hour drive

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been MIA and missed commenting on so many posts. I am happy for the hatches! And thinking good thoughts to people going through rough things, especially health wise. That's so scary. I had/have precancerous cells on my cervix and my doctor wanted to amputate part of it - we want to have more kids and I had amazing pregnancies and water births (and my last baby was over 10lbs! 4 hour birth

) and I really didn't want to mess with preterm labor or possible infertility, so I went to a naturopath and with diet change and some supplements (mostly just green tea!) the cells are less severe and almost gone! It's amazing what diet can do for your body. I wish more people knew. I really struggle with healthy eating, though.

Has anyone ever used local honey to treat their allergies? We just had a man remove honey bees from our wall and are going to get some honey from him. I hope it helps Mark! He's got very bad allergies. Here are a few pictures from yesterday:

Clementine holding a drone. She sat out there all afternoon while the man worked and he told her all about bees. So cool.

He is relocating the bees and uses the honeycomb for candles and sells the honey! He is going to come back and put hives in our back pasture next year.

Yum! We got to eat some.

Our landlord finally came out Saturday and told us we have to move our chicken coop and he changed his mind about us getting goats. Very disappointed. He also told us we have to fill in the little pond the ducks swim in (that was here before we moved in). Can't wait until we can buy a house (which is like 10 years away, thanks student loans

). AND we've found three dog ticks in our bedroom... so, that's terrible.

All the chicks are doing well. Cleaning out the incubator today, don't think I'm up to doing eggtopsies on them. Just going to try and keep the humidity lower next time and see how we do. Really looking forward to our next hatch! Aiming to set April 25th. I need to figure out the best way to clean out our big brooder - it's wooden and has no floor or top. 7 ft long. We have a tarp under it. Any ideas? I did get the Oxine, haven't used it yet.

Well thanks to anyone who read that novel!
Great bee pics! That was a huge, well established hive!

Ya, because a kiddy pool is soooo much more attractive than a pond

I used to work at a health food store. our homeopaths recommendation was to use pollen and not honey. It has to be local to you. Start with a few grains, and add a few grains each day. The goal is to build up an immunity gradually.

This thread moves so fast, in so many directions I wanted to reask some questions from a couple of pages back....

For those of you who use leg bands.....where do you order them and what type do you like?

Is my 3 week old lone chick from my last hatch going to be able to be with my hatch that is hatching this weekend? Poor thing is too small to go out with the big girls (which she spends time with in the mornings before I go to work) but would be nice if she had some company with the new ones. She's a Olive Egger from my Blue Copper Marans so has some size to her.

OK, I forgot the other question....but that reminds me, I need to pick up my bio-identicals! Is it hot in here?

Edited because I remembered my other question....can I change my screen name without starting a whole new account? I searched it and found a reference that said a mod could do it for you but it was dated 2010 so that was the old format, does anyone know if I can do it now? I want to change to my farms name High 'N Dry Farm.

Capayvalleychick and I were talking about bands. We are going to try multi colored painters tape at first and move to something permanent after they are bigger.

The just hatched chicks should be a couple of days old before you put them together. If the new ones are a bigger breed and they are fairly close in size it might work, especially if there are a bunch of them and only one of the big one.

It is cold where I am.....Heat is off in the building and some vent is open letting the wind blow some cold air into my office. Voorhies Hall was built in the 50s....
