Quote: I'm with you guys (and the other people in this thread) about being concerned about what's in manufactured food. In my last house I had a garden and I can't explain the level of satisfaction I had on the days I could gather all our salad ingredients from the yard! I believe it is more than just the quality of food that we lack in our society, there is something spiritual for me to be able to consume the food you personally grow. Am I being too idealistic here??? When I was a child visiting Europe I remember every postage stamp of a yard had a vegetable garden. I think they have the right idea over our manicured non-edible landscapes. Ok, I will get off my soapbox now...

Looked it up. That will do nicely! Pshh I don't even have a "pro" camera. You should be able to get the shots you see in your mind's eye with that camera after a little training. :)

I'm so relieved. Thanks for not laughing.

For those of you who use leg bands.....where do you order them and what type do you like?

I have bought some at shows and I've ordered them from here: http://www.cutlersupply.com/cart/in...h=6_89&zenid=dcf0f22b9b7d97e4174c9da1cc0cf08a

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been MIA and missed commenting on so many posts. I am happy for the hatches! And thinking good thoughts to people going through rough things, especially health wise. That's so scary. I had/have precancerous cells on my cervix and my doctor wanted to amputate part of it - we want to have more kids and I had amazing pregnancies and water births (and my last baby was over 10lbs! 4 hour birth

) and I really didn't want to mess with preterm labor or possible infertility, so I went to a naturopath and with diet change and some supplements (mostly just green tea!) the cells are less severe and almost gone! It's amazing what diet can do for your body. I wish more people knew. I really struggle with healthy eating, though.

Has anyone ever used local honey to treat their allergies? We just had a man remove honey bees from our wall and are going to get some honey from him. I hope it helps Mark! He's got very bad allergies. Here are a few pictures from yesterday:

Clementine holding a drone. She sat out there all afternoon while the man worked and he told her all about bees. So cool.

He is relocating the bees and uses the honeycomb for candles and sells the honey! He is going to come back and put hives in our back pasture next year.

Yum! We got to eat some.

Our landlord finally came out Saturday and told us we have to move our chicken coop and he changed his mind about us getting goats. Very disappointed. He also told us we have to fill in the little pond the ducks swim in (that was here before we moved in). Can't wait until we can buy a house (which is like 10 years away, thanks student loans

). AND we've found three dog ticks in our bedroom... so, that's terrible.

All the chicks are doing well. Cleaning out the incubator today, don't think I'm up to doing eggtopsies on them. Just going to try and keep the humidity lower next time and see how we do. Really looking forward to our next hatch! Aiming to set April 25th. I need to figure out the best way to clean out our big brooder - it's wooden and has no floor or top. 7 ft long. We have a tarp under it. Any ideas? I did get the Oxine, haven't used it yet.

Well thanks to anyone who read that novel!
Congrats on the naturopathic treatment! I'm so happy it worked for you. Don't even get me started on my western medicine soapbox!!! They are good for some things but not all.
I love the hive pictures! How cool that you are adding hives! Honey bees are also on my must-have list... someday!

I want to beat up your landlord!!! Grrrrrr.

This is wonderful. I know where many of you are located. We are above Placerville only recently coming from Sacramento after 8 years. We lived in Watsonville, between Monterey and Santa Cruz all our lives. I called it central CA. It is exciting to know each of you. This is actually our first year having chickens. We would like to move to Sanora or Mariposa maybe next year if we find someone who will rent to us with chickens!

That sounds like a great plan!

Post pictures of your chickens!

I think that people are using the ovation system inappropriately - not the way that it was intended.

People are using it similar to the "Like" button on Facebook, giving thumbs up when they like the post. From the way that I read the intention, the thumbs up should be reserved for posts that are more than that.
Quote: So, the way that I understand it, the thumbs up is for posts that are informational - educational - posts that would be helpful to all or most BYCers.

The way that it's being used is more like a popularity contest. I understand Pam's reaction because I had the same feeling when the ovations first started. I purposely was trying to find people who needed help and would answer them, trying to resolve their issue. Then I would check the ovations the next day. I got frustrated when I saw that the popular BYC members were getting ovations for whatever it was they posted that day. It didn't seem to matter whether it was helpful or not. Some were even snide or political. What seemed to matter wasn't what was being said but who said it. I soon stopped looking at the most ovations list. I have to admit, I got the most ovations for my lamb picture and I was so happy to finally get some ovations. But, again, that's not what the ovations are supposed to be about.

Happy Chooks or any moderator, am I off base on this?

Here is the thread: post #1

My 3Gs isn't quite up for that. It's previous owner scratched the lens pretty good. But yeah, I only have a Nikon D5000 right now, hardly a pro body camera! And now it's like 3 years dated and they don't even make it anymore!

So, you gonna come down from Redding and visit Molly's Chicken Disneyland with us? :fl  It's only a three hour drive ;)

Come anytime... :)
