Jordan- I did answer on FB. I hope it helps. We usually keep the treatment simple and encourage our kids to scratch with a clean wash cloth IF they can't control the itching (my older kids can, a 3 year old however may struggle). We medicate with hydrocortizone (OR benadryl cream if we happen to have some on hand, it gets lost a lot lol) and tea tree oil for germs. The kids usually do a decent job of leaving them alone if we keep it medicated.
Thank you! We have tea tree soap that I've been using. She doesn't get very itchy, even when she had chicken pox! I did put some hydrocortizone on it. Thanks for your help :)
Where are you in Sonoma Co? My 11 yr old started 4H a few months ago. The local club is small, so I became the poultry leader since there wasn't one. Now 4 other kids have decided to do poultry too!! The 4H Chicken Que is this Sunday at the fairgrounds in Santa Rosa. Maybe you can come check it out. We will have a couple of young Seramas to show folks.
Hmm, I wonder if we should join your group! That would be fun!! I could help you with the poultry stuff, maybe? We went to the Penngrove one, but there was one kid there that drove me crazy, haha. We haven't gone back. What is the chicken que? I was afraid to go and bring home some disease

It may just be the picture but it does look like there is a bullseye pattern on that top bite. Keep an eye on it and if the bullseye gets anymore clear you should take her to the doctor asap. I just learned about this in vet school!
I get really bad bug bites like that too. There can be hundreds of spiders and mosquitos around and I'm always the only one to get attacked badly. It must be because I'm so sweet!
I wasn't sure about the bullseye, when I looked them up online there was a clear spot around it and then red around that. I did call her doctor just to give her a heads up. It's funny, I never got bit in Oregon, although my sister and mom did all the time, but here I'm just getting eaten up! What do you use to help prevent bug bites?

Tick bites are generally more red. She could be scratching that one, which would make it more inflamed.

If it starts looking more like a bullseye target, then I'd take her to the Doctor:

She's broody again?

Indeed! I have a video of her growling yesterday. I tried to shove her in the broody bin but she got super ticked off. The box she is in is like 2 feet off the ground. She cannot hatch babies in that! ahhh!

Yes, our remodel started last October, the kitchen was stripped to the sheetrock and had lots of other places in the house repaired.  It was like living out of a foot locker.  I cooked Thanksgiving dinner on a hotplate and in the guest apt. oven over the garage, LOL.  The only thing left is painting all the interior and replacing the carpet..........it was pale dove gray about 30 years ago.................:sick   Who puts dove gray carpeting in a house in the country?

:fl  on the eggs!
I know but what I meant was I've never been able to see a bullseye or not. Just too runny to make anything out

In news from the Shriners Hospital...Curly can now stroll around (OK lurch) and get both food and water all on her own! without toppling headfirst.

This is the hugest milestone! I feel confident that she has turned the corner.

Speaking of corners, last night she backed herself into one and got stuck facing out. Today she owns the orthopedic ward.

And then there were 2. I hatched 8 ducks...rehomed 6- 3 families later. :D

Kept 2 and turns out one is a beloved Appleyard! Puts that girl laying around 16 weeks or something crazy. WOOT!

So your 16 week old duck laid an egg and you hatched it! Impressive!!!

What age do chickens usually start laying eggs?

Depends on the breed. Hatchery pullets, generally in the 20-24 week range. Breeder stock, 24-36 weeks - though I've waited a couple of times for 11 months for an egg.

Certain breeds are slow to mature, such as brahmas, barnevelders, etc.

It depends on the breed. Leghorns and brown hybrids are the earliest--16 to 20 weeks. I have heard that Wellsummers can take a year sometimes, right Happy Chooks?

The ones you just got may take a bit linger because of when they hatched--Usually by a couple of weeks or so. Most of them will be laying by 24 weeks old. The ones that start before November will lay over their first winter too.

I can tell you when mine did but since they aren't the same breeds as yours I don't know if it will make any difference to you

My Red Stars started at around 17 weeks, the Delawares and Australorps all started within a week of one another when they were between 29 and 30 weeks old. I had all but given up since it was early December. I just figured they would start this spring. I was told that the Dels and ALs would be later because they were heavy breeds.
