Here is a picture that you can see underneath the run. Should I use sand? I was going to use sand because if I don't then I have nothing that I can "scrape" out the chicken poop with. I can't keep taking the dirt away. They will be contained here a good portion of the day while I am at work, so there will be quite the manure to deal with...... lol, ha ha I just noticed I said, "contained in here", like you can see the finished product. I have a run here so they will be contained in the run and under the coop as well. I can't believe I finished the coop and didn't get a full picture...... I was so happy to be done, well done enough to put the birds in yesterday afternoon.

Thanks for the link! I am going to try it. I don't believe the weather.com one. It was hotter than not on Saturday and I was out working on the coop until 2pm and then I couldn't take it any more. I had to go in. There was a slight breeze but that just felt like a heater.
You have had a bad couple of months.....sorry about Stuffing..... I love the names you come up with. Do they just come to you or do you work at them?

When you take a chicken to UCD do they have to be in any special "wrapping" and can they be frozen? or at least refrigerated?

Yes, I am having some issues with my 6 week olds too and it is a little frustrating..... I don't like feeling sad and often helpless.

WOW! I like those!

Another great picture!

I wish I could say "sure" I will take those! But I literally just moved 6 week old stinky chickens out of my garage yesterday. I need a break and some time to clean up after the mess! lol

So when Animal Control came by what did they do?
They are supposed to be double bagged and refrigerated or kept cool in an ice chest.

In Woodland, AC is run by the Sheriffs department. There was a cute notice: To the Rooster or owner a....Then the code that says no Roosters and instructions to call the officer. He was very nice and was ok with me having them out by the weekend.

The have lunch at the end of the street so they would be able to easily catch me If I tried again.

There was no inspection.

HI! I missed all the posting going on this weekend. I had 159 posts to catch up on. I will try to post some pictures of my completed coop in the next day or so and I will also ask for confirmation on what I believe may be Roosters, but want to make sure.

I thought I was going to melt into a puddle working on the coop on Saturday. It was 97 degrees by 11am I think it was and 102 by the time I quit at 2pm.. I just had to stop. I couldn't take any more. I looked like a man out there all sweaty and icky (no offense

) swinging hammers, using saws and my wonderful electric screwdriver. I understand why men love tools so much. I NEVER could have gotten this project done without them. I was afraid of the saw before and now it is second nature. My drill/screwdriver is the most valuable tool in my arsenal! I love love love it! Yes that sounds odd, but in a way it is a little bit of freedom. I couldn't do half the things I do without it.

NOW, I need a Pedicure and a Manicure, and possibly a facial.

Oh wait! A massage! That's what I need!!!! Or maybe better yet a Psychiatric evaluation.

Crazy storm last night but what a relief from the heat. We lost power for almost two hours and I was thankful the incubator wasn't going. I have week old chicks in the brooder so I covered them up but they were fine.

Went up to the coop and the 3 sisters are set like glue to their eggs. A little thunder and lightening wont break them! The thing that throws me is the swap the nest they sit on. They're hard to tell apart but I swear they are on different nests.

I put my hatching eggs onto battery backup for a 4 hour power outage on Friday. A chick hatched during the outage.

Jason, what kind of pennedesenca did you already give me? That wasn't Crele, was it?
I have four hens from that batch, and the beautiful white hen...they are getting big. I love them.
Heat hardy will be nice. I lost a big beautiful blue Orpington the other day due to the heat. She had been sitting on eggs for a few weeks.
It was 106 that day and I was busy with my daughters graduation. She must have gotten to hot

another hen has taken over her eggs...

THE POWER OF A HYBRID CHICKEN EGG

So I had a few broody hens I finally took the eggs and through them in the bator. they had been on some a few weeks. stopped laying completely.
10 olive eggs and 15 white empordanesa eggs.
Massive temp spikes and these where turned by hand.
some of the emp eggs went bad.
no empordanesa have hatched though there eggs are fertile.
Heat to high and humidity off.

However so far 8 olive eggers have hatched the last few days.
all my olive eggers from my white empordanesa and blue ameraucana hatch blue/grey.
1 yesterday hatched black and white.
I gave 5 away yesterday goy home and he had hatched.
I was worried he would be a loner ( looks like a boy)
however 2 more today

Great story, and I agree on hybrids being stronger than purebreds. They seem to get strength from both parents and no weaknesses. Glad your loner has company, that will keep it quieter until you can find a new home for the three of them...

That is great news!! Those little OE's are so cute!!

Here is an update of the only "mystery bantam" I got that is still a mystery.

This was when at 2 days old

I'm thinking it's not a Buttercup, because the comb isn't right, and now she has dark legs. Does anyone else think she is starting to look a little "Roostery"?
