California - Northern

So I found my first bad egg in the incubator today. One of the new OE eggs I put in on Saturday night. Can eggs really go bad that fast? I didn't see any cracks in it when I put them in. Last night I noticed it was looking funny when I candled it. I looked at it again when I got home from work and decided to take it out. When I went to break it open and have a look it make a loud popping noise. And it smelled - even from inside a sealed bag.

The look on her face is priceless :)

Good morning chicken people. Yesterday I had the distinct pleasure of visiting Star Rose Ranch and meeting Kim! Kim's place is wonderful and she was generous with her time and totally gracious. I felt like I could talk chickens all day but we had other places to be. It was a lovely day I took my 84 year old mom along for the ride and she made the mistake of asking me all kinds of questions about chickens.

Ron then I was in your neighborhood dropping off two PRs and an SS

I haven't driven along 16 in years and man was it a beautiful day to do it. Stopped and walked around at one of the picnic grounds of Cache Creek. It was a Great day!

I decided to name the new Del Cockerel Ozzie, the new Del Pullet is then of course Harriet and I don't know yet what to call the little Dorking girl but a lot of my new girls are as yet unnamed so...it will come.

I feel so happy that after months of acquisition, hatching, brooding selling and giving away, everyone who still lives out back is who I want to be there and for the moment they are enough. The next thing I am looking forward to is the whole broody experience

Are Polish known for going broody?

Ali I can make red sex links for you now if you want eggs. But I hope your hopeful girls don't turn into boys. Maybe your boys will turn into girls..It happens in some fish species

My human chicks are all home now too. DS had a good time in Puerto Rico. Time to start coaching DD's re how to get a job. Deb, can I send over to you to learn to bake??

I haven't posted much lately as it's been so hard to keep up. Anyway, I would like to share with you all in my excitement. My first broody (Zsa Zsa-my bantam polish fizzle) is on day seven and I just got finished with the first candeling. I placed 5 under her and three are growing nicely! One of the eggs (a showgirl) i did a botched job of trying to repair a crack with wax, apparently she was not having it; i found it's empty shell today outside of the nest box. The other showgirl egg is showing no growth so far. Zsa seems dedicated, she is now pecking at us when we try to check on her.

Anyway, thanks again, Chiqita, for the eggs. The kids and I are enjoying this tremendously!
Omg, i have edited this post a hundred times, i swear my phone has a mind of it's own!

Congrats:)

Thanks for the info Ron - I'll look at it this afternoon when I have time. The starter was from a friend and I've added to it several times before using it. I did not let it rise enough, but I was hungry and I started it late. So it was a little flat. It also stuck to the parchment paper, so I won't use that again. Next time I'll just grease a baking sheet or use my stone.

Good morning!
I found it easier to post from my phone if I don't try to scroll. I just post on top.

That egg was gross and the picture priceless. Your girls face is awesome.

Wait thanks for the info on the SG egg. I hope zha zha is doing well! She is such a cutie. Dh loved the BBQ you left. It was fabulous.

Checked my Muscovites this morning and 3 are trucking along. I am hoping for a pair!
