Ahhhhhh!! The Hubs said that Brawny, our English Orp was trying to CROW this morning!!! :( 4/10 are Roos now it seems. Her/his comb was nice and tan and everything. This week it's got some pink in it but I thought they were all just growing up and not becoming roosters overnight.

It is funny when that happens--Them turning into Roos!

The Roseville Auction is tomorrow.

Wait, Grass Valley has a few palm trees (that get snowed on) does that put us in SoCal!? Or do they have to be naturally occurring palms? Lol no idea if they are.
Before Global Warming, Redding was the farthest North you could grow Palm trees. Now you could probably go a bit further.

Grass Valley is not all that high in elevation.

These are what popped out of the trader joe eggs. One is almost twice the size of the other! Maybe a match. My girls want to name them jack and Jenny ..( some book they think is great) I told them not to get attached . We have had a Banty leghorn roo and he was very needy with the hens and had crowing competition with the barnie roo (who was quiet in his own!
And the Orlando stories were a bummer even though my husband says just get what you want and if they don't work we will try another roo. ( sweet huh) is there a correlation to how well the hens lay to how well the roo crows!?!?!

Quarantine question.... I have never done it? I have swapped hens and Roos with several friends locally and never used quarantine pens!!!!! I have an extra brooder in the garage but its next to a used brooder with 4week olds. How far apart and how long a time?

Easter Egger/Ameraucana people I have a question about head feathers. My two have really cool "helmet" feathers that are longer than the other head feathers and grow behind their ears, flush with their head like they would look if they were traveling at a high rate of speed or had their noggins out the car window and actually have grown to the point they extend beyond the back of the head. What do you call those? Since these girls both have pea combs they look prey bird like anyway and these just add to that.

I don't have a picture but picture me

standing with my palms behind my ears with fingers extended back and slightly up. That's how their feathers grow. I haven't seen that in pics I have looked at of EEs, just beards and muffs but it's cool.

we sell windmill and mediterranean fan palms up to Seattle and Vancouver . They are hardy to around 0 degrees . That particular fan palm grows in the Atlas Mountains up to 8000 ft I think

Are the ones with the head feathers Amelias? They are really crossed with Crested Cream Legbars. Those feathers are the Crest from the CCL. I have two with crests.
