These are what popped out of the trader joe eggs. One is almost twice the size of the other! Maybe a match. My girls want to name them jack and Jenny ..( some book they think is great) I told them not to get attached . We have had a Banty leghorn roo and he was very needy with the hens and had crowing competition with the barnie roo (who was quiet in his own!
And the Orlando stories were a bummer even though my husband says just get what you want and if they don't work we will try another roo. ( sweet huh) is there a correlation to how well the hens lay to how well the roo crows!?!?!

Quarantine question.... I have never done it? I have swapped hens and Roos with several friends locally and never used quarantine pens!!!!! I have an extra brooder in the garage but its next to a used brooder with 4week olds. How far apart and how long a time?

I can't search from my phone, but there is a great thread by speckledhen on quarantine. It's in the sticky section I believe.

we sell windmill and mediterranean fan palms up to Seattle and Vancouver . They are hardy to around 0 degrees . That particular fan palm grows in the Atlas Mountains up to 8000 ft I think
Redding being the farthest north for palm trees is of course for the ones you see on Hollywood boulevard. There are so many weird plants available now.

We had a Himalayan Maple tree--It is deciduous but only if the Temps get below something like 25 below 0 or some terribly low temperature that Woodland will never have. It stayed leafed out and full of pitch through the winter. It was an Horrible tree. Do not ever plant one of those.

Here is the speckledhen thread, another thread and an article. I am willing to bet that more often than not things go fine w/o the quarantine but when it goes bad it can really go bad. I read a story on another chicken site where the woman had 30, brought in 4 healthy looking birds and within 2.5 weeks they were all dead from a respiratory disease that the new chickens carried which emerged because of the stress involved with moving.

Why do some use phones here? It seems very limiting. Maybe on a trip or in a pinch.

I only read the site on my Nook color. If I need to reply I get on a real computer.

Is that why some cannot post? Mobile version hiccups?

I've seen that planting of Northern/Southern on the freeway median. Someone told me once about it's significance. I had forgotten all about it.

I used to have a friend that was a palm collector. He had everything you could think of. He once pointed out an extremely rare palm growing in someone's yard backed up to Hwy 50 near Watt Ave. That was 25+ years ago and I still look at that palm every time I drive by. When I went to Hawaii in 1988, somehow a few palm seeds came home with me that I had picked up, he got every one of them to grow.
