I wish poultsr were easier to sex. (It's why Sarge was named Madge for so long...). My Narraganset poult is such a cutie but no clue what sex... I am leaning towards "Jenny" as opposed to "Jake" because it has never displayed even once since it hatched on Seis de Mayo.

However, both BBB hens displayed when they were growing and that confused the issue for me. They stopped displaying when Sarge as Madge joined the flock.

I think having a second Tom would be cool, but if this one turns out to be a hen, that's cool, too.

Thank you. I have no sense of smell so I don't honestly know I have to get a nose double out to sick bay STAT. Her weight is normal. She is a hatchery Del so she is about 5 lbs instead of 6 or so. She laid a soft shelled egg wed thur and fri yesterday and today so far nothing.

So what you are saying is that you have a pinch hitter for your nose? Lucky you I guess with stinky chicken poo and all. Not my favorite aroma to be sure.

I'm in a predicament... I bought 5 silkies/sizzles in January. One passed from wry neck, 3 have turned into boys & I'm HOPING that my avatar, Benina, is surely a lady. She hasn't started laying or crowing though :) So--- I'm wondering if anybody is interested in my buff silkie roo & smoothe sizzle roo AND/or my RIR that just made himself known:) I cannot have ANY roos :( I've had all of theses since chicks & hatched the RIR. I'm hoping to find homes for these boys & get Benina a coop mate. Anybody able to help? I'm thinking of a cochin or a polish for her buddy.

I hop you find the a good home!

On the What are you baking now thread there was a recipe for Black Berry Wine cake. The Recipe and all of the ones I could find used Box mixes.

I do not use those--I do not like the way they taste--I grew up on home made everything. Of course I modified one of my favorite cake recipes and it turned out great!

I hope the instructions make sense. If not send a pm.

That sounds so gooooooooooood! It reminds me of my favorite lemon cake with lemon glaze,

Quote: I'm concerned that she is only laying soft shelled eggs. What type of feed are you feeding?

I had an older hen that was laying soft shelled eggs. I put the flock on Flockraiser (I was mixing Flockraiser/Layer pellets before) and put them all on vitamins. The soft shelled eggs became shelled eggs again.

But if your girl is having crop issues, treat that first with ACV. (the organic stuff with the mother in it) And never put it in a metal waterer. Then when that clears up, you can deal with the soft eggs.

I do not ever use a boxed cake either.

I took a lemon blueberry pound cake to a BBQ yesterday. It was a huge hit!

I have a couple of white crested black polish pullets I'm going to sell. I also have some younger whites, but I haven't sexed them yet. I could take a look at them tomorrow to see if they are old enough to tell. I also have a frizzled tolbunt hen that I may sell, but she is a little spendy.
