I went there and searched for hardware cloth and got a page with chicken coops.

Also if you are new to sign up there is a 10% discount they give you. Not bad! OH, it is showing $82.70 today, plus I have a $6.06 credit from something else I bought on here. So you buy stuff and they give you something similar to cash back credit on their site. I have to buy another roll if I move.

Try this link directly to the page. I searched hardware cloth and it came right up. What a great deal!

i was hoping they'd have the rolls that are 3' or 4' wide, but they only seem to have the 2'.
They have 3' right now. See link above if it works.

I have been very pleased with all the purchases that I have made from Wayfair. If you decide to buy from them, they have a referral program and the friend who referred you gets $10 plus you get 10% off a purchase over $100. It looks like several of us shop there and I'm sure each of us would be happy to give you a referral link.

I use golf balls instead of faux eggs because I can feel the difference between the two when I need to feel around under a hen. They work great, and are cheaper.
I used golf balls the first time and they worked really well. Now I have to find some for this time. I feel silly buying a golf ball ONLY to use it as an egg decoy.

Darn I just looked again and it fooled me the first time. It is showing $111 for the 3' by 100' which is more this time than what I spent last time. Last time I spent $97 a roll. However, I think it would still be worth it for me to not have to go get it somewhere.

I am lazy like that!

Thank you for the link, I like that they have the 1/8 " mesh also. great if you want to keep wasps out of your hen house. I think I will get some of that to make screens for the windows for hot weather and a screen door. When I get ready to order I will check to see who hasn't received the referral.

Oh that is a good idea! I didn't think about that.

1/8" would be good for quail too I bet...... right Chiquita and Deb? Maybe?

I don't think I'd want to eat anything a chicken could cough up!

Now that you put it that way, the image is a bit off putting! Tilly, my CL is the biggest and by far loudest of my three. She sure makes more noises the older she gets, but not egg songs, mor like "Hurry up and come give us our treats, NOW!"

It sounds like you have been productive!

The average age for the first egg is 22 weeks for all breeds.

I hope you get one soon!

The expo is fun!
I am going to be spending quite a bit of time with my 23 month old granddaughter. I'd love it if the girls would either hurry up and lay before I leave town OR wait until I return. I'm crossing fingers they lay exactly at average age. I'm gone a week, back a week, and gone again the following week. That middle week happens to be week 22! In the end, I understand it is what it is, but it would be sweet if I'm here for the very first egg. If not, unless all 3 begin laying at once, I'll likely be around for the first of at least one.

Hehehehe. Dunno how many times I've gathered a faux egg, myself. I finally marked them with a Sharpie so save myself from carrying 'em back to the coop again.
Too funny. The wood egg is unpainted, and I think my bantam Cochin should lay brown eggs. I found myself thinking, wow, what a big first egg for her followed immediately by the let down I was the source of that egg. A good laugh at my expense.

As for golf balls, none laying around so the wood egg was "it". I see your advantage of golf ball shape and size. Will golf balls or fake eggs discourage the pecking and breaking/eating real eggs? Or are chickens smart enough to tell them apart?

Take time to look at everything. There are lots of choices for food, see what looks good to you. Livestock and the poultry show are in the far back. I'll be there Tuesday, with some chickens. I was considering having my ranch exhibit again, but I don't think I can pull it off this year.

We should have at least 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Will be there at dinner time. I got our tickets online. Do they limit attendance? Did you exhibit the first two years? Thanks for the info!

Golf balls are excellent for that purpose. I used to use three of those but that was before I moved up here... Seemed to have lost 'em. One of the feed stores had ceramic AND wooden eggs, so I nought a few of the ceramic ones. They get nice and warm under hens and feel remarkable realistic, but they don't break open even under heavy traffic. Err, chicken traffic, of course. One of my super-Broodies,, who you would think could tell the difference, had a roundish rock:rolleyes: in one of her clutches in the yard.
