That's what I've been wondering. Are they really a nicer blue egg? Is it a deeper blue? Can they have green tints to them?Get a cream legbar instead - better personality, better layer, larger blue eggs.
Yes.
Thank you

Thank you Nikon
I may be adding to my flock. That site showed the eggs, looks like maybe a little more true of a blue egg than Ameracaunas. Sometimes it's hard to tell in pics if they've been washed out by the flash or saturated in photoshop. Kind of been thinking about them for a couple of months. You start off with just a couple breeds and it expands before you know it
Now, how to tell the DH that I need 2 more runs this spring instead of 1Thank you NikonI may be adding to my flock. I have a trio of Lavender Ameracaunas and the pullets haven't started laying yet. I got them from a lady who purchased them from Harry Schaffer. So hopefully soon I'll get to see their color. My others are easter eggers, so I guess I keep comparing to what I am getting now (which is light blue and light blue/green). I'm hoping the trio I have will be a nicer blue. I guess I haven't had true Ameracaunas before so that's what I keep comparing them too. About 13 years ago I had a trio of Aracaunas. They were tufted and rumpless but laid a cream egg. Not sure what happened there.Do you have actual Ameracaunas? They should be blue blue, not green or greenish blue. There isn't any flash in that pic, you'd see it in the straw.

OK, we are having shark week here. Mario just ran in telling me to come listen outside.
There is a bobcat screaming on the other side of the ravine. All I need now are a couple of dancing snakes and a pregnant raccoon.
I have never heard them before I had to listen on the internet. Mario was worried someone was being murdered.
I'm hoping she scares the crap out of the foxes. Plus, the foxes got a silkie so small and got chased so hard I think it was a net caloric loss. I'm hoping they felt gyped and will move on. I'm seeing them tell their little fox friends. " dude it looks like a 5 star buffet but it sucks. Plus I got skunked, who wants that?" Let's go downtown and nibble on resteraunt leftovers instead."
I did not know we use stucco wire for runs ( not coops) but I was told we do so I guess I like it too!
Welcome new people!
. Then I realized I was admiring the wooden egg I'd placed in the box. Duh!!!
Hehehehe. Dunno how many times I've gathered a faux egg, myself. I finally marked them with a Sharpie so save myself from carrying 'em back to the coop again.

positive. Found them years ago through an Aracauna site, local lady. Beautiful birds with nice tufts, no beards and rumpless. Started my family so didn't have time to deal with the cream egg issue. Honestly, would have probably had to start over. The breeder said "ya, we have that problem going on".. Both hens laid cream eggs. It was such a let down. Was always curious if it was a big problem, but never had the time/resources to look into it further. Are you sure they weren't Anconas?
yay!! I'm praying for thatYes, a beautiful blue egg. Mine laid a few pullet eggs, then she super sized them.
