Ya I'm excited. They're barnevelders and Isbars. And Monday or Tuesday my ayam cemani eggs should come!

i'm hoping for some hatching isbars soon, too -- these are the ones that spent a day or so in the malfunctioning incubator, at too low of temps (~85 most of the time?), then sat out at room temp for another day, and THEN went in at the correct temp on august 27 -- that makes today day 19, but i'm not sure whether the day of being at 85° might have gotten any early development going, so i switched the egg-turner off on thursday, and am now keeping an eye on them... just in case...

Omg! I remember that :/ good luck! I hatched more than I had expected when I found that my inubator was at 96 the whole hatch!

i did, but it was hard to tell what's going on in there -- they all have wonky-shaped air cells, but six SEEMED to be developing, while the other seven (one is a Daisy Jr. egg) i wasn't as sure about... but since this is the first time i've ever used an incubator, and they were shipped eggs, i'm not counting on having a huge success rate?

(although a friend has a chicken who's just gone broody & wants to borrow a few chicks for her to raise! will see what we get...)

and hey, a flock of wild turkeys just wandered through the yard past the (closed) coop -- why doesn't the bobcat eat THEM instead of my chickens?

because they fly! But I think it does when it can get them, the wild turkeys had been disturbed on the day our attack happened and I think some were missing...

They fly more than a little even! Coming home one evening I came up behind a group of 8/10 walking down the middle of the road, they finally decided to get out of the road and flew at least 20 feet up a pine tree along the road. I was not expecting that height from them.

I hope to take your words of wisdom regarding skunk spray removal from human hair. Since I'm running across them in my nighttime walks to the coops it is just a matter of time I fear.

Ack, it has been so long since I went on vacation! I'm so behind on BYC NorCal! I'm not sure if it's a good thing (lots of great reading to do) or a bad thing (all those hours of reading BYC when I should be doing productive things like...unpacking from my last 3 trips)!

Most importantly: The friend that was petsitting my 3 hens while I was away on vacation has a beautiful big empty chicken coop, and is now addicted to fresh eggs. Is there anyone who has 4 extra laying hens of various shapes and sizes and colors that they would like to rehome? I know there are some serious hatching addicts around, and I'm happy to pay decently for lovely BYC quality hens! I haven't looked on Craigslist yet, but there's always that option if there aren't any excess hens around.
