But I don't deal well with bizarre foods. I always said if I were married to Andrew Zimmern, I wouldn't be able to kiss him knowing some of the things that had been on his tongue. I saw an episode of his yesterday and his wife was on the show. She wasn't quite as adventurous as he was,

Ya the more I look at those pics the more I don't think I could turn that into a meal. My hubby wouldn't for sure. Maybe If I told him it was tofu, he's never had that. He may fall for it!

If you are breeding black to lavender at this stage get a black split so it has the lav gene. Otherwise you just get splits.

I don't know why you would do that instead of nice lavender . I don't quite understand the genetics of breed to black, but it is very popular.
I've seen some BEAUTIFUL lavender roos, but none for sale. From what I've been told, the blacks improve on alot of things that the lavenders are having issues with. Then if you get a split, you can improve your lavenders. A nice lav roo would be an easier route, if anyone has a gorgeous lav roo they would want to part with

We started off with no soy, corn, peanuts, dairy, gluten, eggs, and sugar for 21 days. It was way easier than it sounds. You eat vegies, fruit, meat (organic, grass-fed if possible), and healthy fats with a small amount of approved non-gluten grains like quinoa, brown rice, oatmeal, etc. Then after the 21 days, you add some of the restricted foods back in one at a time to see if your body is intolerant of any of them. Soy, corn, peanuts, and sugar remain on the restricted list. Organic, non-GMO fermented soy, corn, and sugar should comprise less than 5% of your diet. You never go back to processed foods and instead concentrate on eating real foods. It is very similar to a Paleo diet. I found out that I am very intolerant of dairy and of course that's what I crave. I have chosen to only eat gluten, corn, and sugar on very rare occasions. I have added eggs back into my diet and see no negative effect so I am assuming that I am not intolerant of eggs. That was a relief!

Thank you PetRock. I will check it out more. If you and your hubby did it together then that's perfect. Hard when one is one a diet and the other isn't.

as long as it looks like ther eis chick in there, they developed and there is hope! Ill take hope!

fingers crossed!

and in the meantime, since the turkeys were parading around, i figured the bobcat couldn't be TOO close by, & gave my flock a vacation outside of their coops for a couple of hours -- everyone was SO happy to scamper around and peck at the few blades of grass that have grown since they were last out -- what an adventure! i snapped a few pictures, none are terribly great:

the dark-brown mutt-chick at 3 weeks old, turning more black-ish -- and almost guaranteed to be a boy

charming Harold, a little out of focus

Queenie (araucana) and Blue (isbar) -- hard to believe, comparing Harold's & Blue's combs, that they are actually hatch-mates!

Mabel, the blue isbar/marans cross -- she has such pretty almost-silver around her neck...

Maria the birchen marans, always suspicious... but so so pretty.

That is so true! My DH actually found the JJ Virgin Diet program on PBS. I have been really worried about his weight, blood pressure, etc. so I'm glad that this is working for us.

Very pretty birds! I'm glad that they were able to have a break without the bobcat's company!

Ack, it has been so long since I went on vacation! I'm so behind on BYC NorCal! I'm not sure if it's a good thing (lots of great reading to do) or a bad thing (all those hours of reading BYC when I should be doing productive things like...unpacking from my last 3 trips)!

Most importantly: The friend that was petsitting my 3 hens while I was away on vacation has a beautiful big empty chicken coop, and is now addicted to fresh eggs. Is there anyone who has 4 extra laying hens of various shapes and sizes and colors that they would like to rehome? I know there are some serious hatching addicts around, and I'm happy to pay decently for lovely BYC quality hens! I haven't looked on Craigslist yet, but there's always that option if there aren't any excess hens around.

I have a few I could part with, but I don't have the variety that Deb does.

Yeah Laura that silver is real pretty..

Last night I set the last set of eggs From Rocky the Crele penedesenca and Whitey the White Empordanesa roosters. They went off to spend the rest of there lives as free range chickens in mobile coops with sheep , goats and livestock gaurdian dogs.

I set 10 from them ( 6 crele eggs and 4 emp eggs I think )
plus 10 assorted olive eggers
1 was from my blue ameraucana hen x and whitey the white emp.
the other 9 where either from
U of A blues or the Blue wheaten x buff from Candy over either White empordanesa , crele penedesenca or black penedesenca )
as I had not seperated the younger ones yet until a few days ago.
since they are molting i figured it was a good time to switch roosters and set what I had and hope I can get a few more chicks from Rocky and Whiteys genes.
Now the younger ones I put in the breeding pens look really good.

I am excited to see what I get from the olive eggers though.
The black penedesenca from Sandhill seem to be laying a light light egg which is a bummer so I may be getting rid of all them and using that run for the crele olive egger project until I can find better dark Black penedesenca eggs to hatch.

Ron I am hoping since the rooster you gave me is not related maybe it will help to darken future gen. eggs but not sure If I want to wait

His sister is not laying yet but she is starting to get red in the face. Hopefully soon and we will know how dark she lays. The egg they hatched from were nice and dark.

It sounds like you are having a great chicken adventure up at your place!

yes, I moved my younger silver ameraucana in the black pene run too so I will move the U of A and other easter egger with the emp's as I have 2 roosters in there and the emp's are smaller birds than the black pene. The Black pens rooster is 4 times larger than the u of a and the emps only 3 lol so I feel a little bad for them. I am hoping he does not try and breed with the little silvers until I can move them somewhere else lol. or the black pens.

I hatched a crele rooster from the lady Eddie with the Wallabies who will be used in the crele oe project probably. unless he looks really good then would move him in with my crele pene's and swap roosters out.

Basically 1 more run is in order. well 2 I need a small one for the babies

I only have extras in one breed. I have to select my keepers, soon. I will have extra Silver Gray Dorking pullets available for layer (not breeder) flocks. They will lay white eggs. $10. each. Can deliver to Davis, since I go there once a month to pick up feed.
