Who has what in the egg department?

I would love to hatch anything that lays 4+ eggs per week is blue/silver/grey/black and white or lays a chocolate or true blue egg but only want 6-8 b/c I am going to see if I can hatch some of Ozzie's babies too

Beakface sat tight all day yesterday except for the two times she stole eggs from other nesting boxes. She refused to get off last night and was up this morning but I think it was just for her break. I have to go out and listen for her buc buc buc and check out her poofiness. Anyway if she is still there on Monday I will give her a few of our eggs but since she has proven herself as a mama I would love to give her some special eggs from one of you too.

PM me and we can set up what we are going to do...I am excited and hope she goes for it.

Wow I was on a European chicken page and just saw a new chicken. vorwerks! Striking coloring. Kook like they were dipped in dark chocolate.

Aren't they cool?? I saw a pic last spring and put em on my...when they are affordable and available in the US list :)

Awww, love the kitty pictures. I guess I am going to have to get another pet cat - because the barn cats just don't cuddle like pet cats do!

Oh wait - I can go pet a Silkie - if they have dried off enough!

how do you pronounce Cochin? Is it Co shin Co chin or Co Cheen or something else?

My broody girl is back in her favorite spot, growling, pancaking and fluffing herself out. I think it's a go. I was grumbling about it a bit but DH said "She wants to be a mommy again. We should let her." Sometimes chicken math comes from surprising sources.

Should I worry about the fact that she hasn't gained back the weight she lost when she was broody the first time? She isn't skinny but she certainly isn't Australorp chunky.

At the moment I have...
Black copper marans
Blue laying Easter eggers
Silver laced wyandottes
Olive eggers
A few cream legbar (still pullet eggs)

400

Hurrah! Two out- one positioned upside down:-( ill give until this afternoon before I check the membrane and decide to assist or not.
I've never had a chick with its head in the small end of the eggs. At least the beak is out of the pip and I can start from there...

my isbar that hatched last week pipped at the small end, too -- got out without problems unassisted, although there was a long 26-hour break between the first pip & actually getting down to the business of breaking out. video of the last 10 min or so is here:

It gets harder to find quality hatching egg this time of year.

Good luck with the new broody hatch!

It really depends on why the chick is not positioned correctly. It is is not neurological then they have a much better chance of hatching. Some are so healthy that the smash their way out. Others are in an egg relatively large to the chicks size to they can still turn and zip.

I hope the hatch for you!

it's hard to find any eggs at all! between broodies and molting, i've been getting only one or two eggs a day (out of 8 hens of laying age) -- but happily, at least one of the broodies is transitioning back to laying (having molted while broody, so convenient), so hopefully the dry spell is over...
