So your a tailgater.....

Where did your serama pair come from or are they your project?

Also I'm coming down to the bay this Friday. If anyone has anything tempting let me know. I'm still hoping Debs_flock has some cl and golden campine to spare?

They are 1 gen removed from crazypetladys birds. She has like 20 pair of them so I don't know more then that. but she has a decent eye and spends money on chickens so its good.

You can use any Buffs you may get in the Partridge pen to get back to Partridge, a lot of them carry Partridge already.  The color base is closer than the other colors.  I don't know what she uses in her Porcelain pen, but those may carry Partridge under them too...   All SORTS of fun!  If you get an extra Porcelain boy I might be interested in him - since I have developed a fondness for that color as well...

Yup, maybe she will trade since I really don't want Blue or Black and my birds decided to hatch out some of their eggs while I was gone, two Blue and a Black (and a Partridge for me  ).   One of my Blue hens carries Partridge, I need to do some selective hatching next Spring to find out WHO!

I will see how many make it and what colors they show. They are light now so we shall see! I did have a blue partridge hen in the mix and there is a lot of weird genetics. I think all of my roos were recessive to partridge. I know Iggy and freakazoid were. Flames a very red partridge and Herman and max were too. Actually Jo did too... .So Danny boy with all the beetling on his tail might too. Of course none of my new girls have known genetics....

who has the link to the chicken genetics page where you plug in color and get a possible result? Please???

Also any idea why I can't access the Java reviews? I can get all the other breeds I have tried

but have "insufficient permissions" for Javas.

That's where I want to go - Blue Partridge. I have Blue.. I have Partridge... I just wish mixing colors was a whole lot easier! I did get a blue/buff combo - too bad its a BOY

He sounds really pretty!

From your posts it sounds like you know your genetics on poultry colors which should help :) Now there are always the odd balls like my Polish chick that looks like she is going to be a chocolate partridge. The color calculator missed on that one! Buff laced x WC Chocolate Cuckoo.

Quote: Yes, its 20%. She shows her birds, and that's why she wants the extra protein when they molt. So yes, 22%.

Quote: It can't catch hidden recessive genetics. If your Buff carries Partridge (Split) and your Chocolate carries Partridge (Split) then you can get the Partridge. Partridge being recessive hides under almost everything - and split birds are almost impossible to tell when they are full grown. You can sometimes guess from their chick down - but that takes experience. Look on the Lavender Silkies thread - some of those chicks show the Partridge pattern at birth but become solid Lavender when grown. I bet all of them are "Split" to Partridge - or are based on Partridge.

Quote: Not exactly, it makes more of the nutrients available to the birds, including the protein in the feed. It can't add something that isn't there.

Quote: I would guess he was disturbed when sleeping. Could be a light woke him up, or a rat or something ran by him - or there is a predator around and he is warning them. If its the same time each night I would guess you have a predator coming around on it's rounds. My boys would occasionally crow when there was a full moon and it shown in their coop, but they only did it for the three nights. When I went out to look I didn't need a flashlight, it was that bright. If you have a neighbor that drives home every night the same time and his lights can get in your coop, that would do it too.
