California - Northern

It is super windy tonight! I keep hearing things banging and rattling outside the house but I'm not going to check to see what it is. The chickens are secure and hopefully no tree branches will come down!

there is a winter storm warning in the Sierras until 4pm tomorrow.

I have for chickens out on the coop. I will put them up at 9pm. They really are silly for not going into the coop. They do on rainy nights but the wind does not bother them I guess.

Ugh brutal winds. Should have an inch or two of snow come morning . We have a few more things to wrap up out there. Hoping the day
Melts it off and the ground does not freeze to soon.

We are working on getting everyone out of the garage and into the yard. It's a little tricky at first snow! I still have a few hatchery birds I'm not sure what to do with. They don't fit..... (Chicken math) either process ( where to find the time) , send of to our friends property I'm placerville ( where we send the naughty to feed the mountain lions..... Or sell ? If anyone wants pol hatchery birds pm me. I'm not much for craigslist but it a consideration now that the snow is comin.

Hope everyone is hunkered down:-)

You are my hero, Deb. :bow A couple of regulars at The Pub have asked me if I was willing to sell some pullets and I started to hyper-ventilate. MY pullets? That I hatched? Or my hens hatched? My GrandChicks?!? Ummm.. Maybe in the spring... Right now I have to improve the roo/hen ratio some more....
Where is your pub? Are we allowed to ask things like that? We love meeting and supporting and traveling to local owned businesses .

No wonder it was sooooo cold by 6pm. That wind was coooollllddddd. I went to do some regular maintenance and am really happy that where I have them was almost completely blocking out the wind. Yay!

One good thing is that the polish I trimmed up got into the coop and up on the roost all by herself! Poor thing, she just couldn't see. Since she is black and her crest is black and super thick it wasn't letting any light through either. She was always the first one to go to sleep and the last one up, so that cut down her eating time as well.

Too bad that I had to cut her feathers because she was so pretty. Still doesn't look too bad though, kind of like an 80's Mullet.

One other thing I forgot to mention is that I took some pumpkin out for the girls with a sprinkling of meal worms and had the one girl get so excited she dropped her egg at my feet! First time they have had any pumpkin. They seemed to like it okay.

That is so funny!

They love pumpkin a bit too much....

The Pub at Fairplay, on Fairplay Road at Perry Creek Road opposite the Fairplay Hardware store and next to Winery By The Creek. (Perry Creek Road hits Fairplay Road twice... So drive past Pioneer Park where "the first" Perry Creek meets Fairplay Road.) Fairplay Road is off Mt. Aukum Road, otherwise known as E16. The Pub is halfway between my house and my new property. Most convenient. ;) Sunday evenings are Trivia Nights, Every other Monday is Monday Night Football and the alternate Mondays are "Open Mike" nights, Tuesday evenings are "Locals Nights" with free corkage with any entree and a buck off draft beer, Weds thru Sat are just normal nights with the occasional special this or that... Oh! On Sat & Sun, they serve an English Breakfast special from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The rest of the week the Pub doesn't open until 11 a.m. Closing is 11 p.m. every day of the week. I would love to meet BYCers there - and the staff would get a kick out of it, too, I am sure. This evening, a customer overheard something somebody said to me and blurted, "Oh - are you Linda the Egg Lady?" The night manager interjected, "Gosh, you could have asked me and I would have introduced you earlier!" By the way, it started to get rather windy and chilly and had started to sprinkle before I headed home. Much earlier than I had expected the cold & wet front to arrive!

it has to be snowing there. We have 40 and some cold rain here. It looks like it might snow in Pollock Pines though probably not stick

Sounds like winterization has moved to the top of everyone's lists. Yesterday was a burn day here, got the brush burned from the tree we took down and a little extra. We still have more work to do back there but I did get the fence line cleaned up for the neighbors. Today's job is pulling out the tomato plants before they freeze and get slimy.

When we got our pound puppy our vet told us she thought she had Kelpie in her. While going through school she interned at various ranches. A sheep ranch had a couple of Kelpies, when she and the dogs went out to collect the sheep tthe dogs were ticked at her. She only had one job, open the gate! The dogs were upset because she didn't get it open soon enough for them. Having dogs that think independently can be challenging.

Nice looking chicks and eggs everyone.

I guess I should pick up a few pumpkins for the girls but I'm kinda burnt out on them right now. I just carved 7 for a fundraiser and 1 for my MIL. At least the girls don't require decoration!
