*Checks drive time to Stockton*

Ah, 7 hours 9 minutes. Nope, not going *pouts* My husband thinks going 2 hours to Eureka for chickens in February's a bit strange.

California is a very long State. On the East coast, you would have gone through many states to reach Stockton.

When we lived in Corning, we had an exchange student from Costa Rica staying with us--First thing he wanted to know was when we were going to Disney Land! That is a 10 hour drive from Corning.

I am at least 2 hours from pretty much anywhere anyone has ever heard of so the issue for my husband is not the drive time but the fact that I think I need more!

What breed id this? are they friendly. looking for a few down the road for weed control

Would you consider sheep, instead? MUCH easier to contain. I have a young ram for sale. He and his buddy have grown up on our front lawn, since I can't put them out with the flock. They're great lawn mowers. I just drag the wire panel pen around where I want it mowed.
Clint has turned out to be the sweetest guy! Super friendly, every time he sees me he runs up and leans against me and looks up at me, wanting to be scratched. He's as loveable and personable as a dog. I've had offers to buy him from people who want him for meat but even my husband says no. I need to find him a home as a breeder or pet. I really did not intend to get attached to this guy, but he's so charming!
I have heard that friendly rams are especially dangerous, but I just can't imagine this one would ever turn nasty. Oh and no shearing- this is a St. Croix Hair sheep!

I started the girls on nipples as chicks, but it seemed like they weren't getting enough water. At 2 months I gave them the option of the little orange cups, and although it took a week for them to figure it out, they seem to prefer it to the nipples most of the time. I've found the nipples vary in quality and water output too, enough for the girls to prefer one nipple over the other.

As for spillage, I just put some seed in the dirt below the waterers, protect them with some raised hardware cloth and voila -- self sustaining green patch for the girls to nibble on.

So here our new zombie chicken, the poor rescue from our neighbor's flock. She's eating and scratching fine so far and the girls are curious and only slightly disturbed.

At least he picked somewhere in the same state--when a friend from the UK visited someone in Pennsylvania, he wanted to take a weekend drive to the Grand Canyon
