California - Northern

Moving is so depressing! We are moving to Mountain Ranch, CA about 12 miles from San Andreas. I want to comment in the Northern California section if I can. I may be considered Central CA. I dont know if its important or not.
I'm sure all are welcome. Mountain Ranch? We almost bought up there a couple years ago. We are in Volcano and setting up a new coop and run. Just wanted to say HI.

It is great to hear from you!

Couldn't quite shake it and hello... Were expecting. That's why I'm a few thousand post behind! When I went to my midwife thinking I was 10 weeks... Nope over 14, now were at 17 weeks. Time flies !

Hope everyone is well this winter,
Flowers.
Wow, congrats!

Quote: Well, at least you can have chickens, that's the important part.

Thank you very much!

This time when I hatch them, I need to make sure I keep all of the pullets.
I have 7 pullets but 2 or 3 of them are smaller than the others so won't be breeding them. I hope to get more cockerels from the next hatch. I really did not get a choice for the roo since I only hatched 2 and the 1 has the brassy hackle feathers. I need to get some new pics of them so I can show you. Maybe later this afternoon...

Ok so broody mama with chicks that are 4 weeks old. I found 2 eggs from her this morning. She's still clucking to them showing them food. Doesn't drive them away. I swear when she was with her flock this morning she fought MORE hens that came by her. Is this close to the end since she's laying now. I have her and her babies seperate most the time, so that at encourage her to keep mothering. I wish I had a Very protective breed that mothered 6-8 weeks

He could come with some breese pullets <<

Also, in case anyone is curious, NEVER EVER EVER get ice cream and based on oatmeal instead of dairy.

DEEEEguisting!

Oh, you're just awful! Tempting too!

Then I would have two Breese to add to my six hens and THREE roosters! I'm set on putting Brawny in his place and not shoving his big butt in the freezer.

As long as they can sleep under or with her your fine. It's not over till the fat lady chases the chicks away!

Thanks chiqita! I just desperately want her to be an "old reliable" at this job :) 4 weeks is too early for me
