Flock Raiser or more likely Grower will be 20% protein. That is good for them.

The feed store should have Oyster Shell Calcium. I put it into a small chick feeder for them to eat when they want to.

If the temp is stable in the morning I will set the eggs and see how it goes!! Do I set the temp up to 102 like the link said or try for 100 like every one else has said?

It's been at 100 for a few hours. I'm going to get another thermometer. I'm not sure if I'll get it for this hatch but that link said they use 3.

I'll have a bunch more questions as time goes on... Like do I really take the plugs out on day 10? I thought it was only at time of hatch.

Does your incubator have a fan in it? If it has a fan then 99.5 to 100. If it is a still air, it has a top and a bottom temperature. You would need two thermometers. The average between the top and bottom would be 99.5 to 100.

It doesn't have a fan. Where could I get a good thermometer tomorrow? Is there a certain one that is best? Where do I place them?

I have a cockerel that has had a crop problem for a while. I was treating with miconezole but saw an ad for a sour crop pill from a place called Hakes twin City Poultry Supply. I ordered the sour crop pills and a one gallon hanging water fountain. I gave him one pill on Friday night and one pill last night. The Crop is almost down to normal and he is trying to crow now!

Their catalog has a diarrhea medicine for chickens.

watery poo is a symptom of round worms too. I see they have been treated  with ivermectin. A float test might help.

Along with the order, they sent me a list of their medicines and the withdrawal periods. Frontline was listed as Best for treatment of lice and mites with no withdrawal period. I am holding on to the charts!

I used Frontline Plus for BIG dogs on my chickens for a big lice problem. One treatment and it completely killed everything (I used a needle and put 3-5 drops in a few different spots on them, one spot on the chicks I had) Haven't had a problem with lice since! Several months.

I'm thinking that they may now have something going on with their combs... Their combs are a bit pail an a tiny bit of blackish looking spots. Do you know if it would help that? (Or is that even mites?)[/quote
The little black spots in their combs sounds like bird pox. It's not really anything to worry about (at least that's what I was told when I noticed it on ONE hens comb)," let it run it's course thru your coup then all your birds with be immune to further outbreak of it." It ran its course with no further problems so far. It's bn 4 months since first noticed on Dumpling. It's run it's course I think. Unfortunately I think frostbite is going t take a good portion of her comb. : (

I put water in the center already. Should I poor it out and put it on the outside (and wait till I put the eggs in?) The instructions said center. And also to add water every couple days.

Sorry, I had it backwards in my head. Leave the water where it is and add the eggs.

I looked bird pox up. It doesn't look quite like that. It looks more like black dirt then bumps/warts. Sorry about Dumplings comb!

Next question. Do I really take out both plugs?? The instructions said take them out at hatch if needed.

I did get two more thermometers. I'm going to put them in and give it another while.

Hi Northern Cali Family!I am in San Bruno and am new to the site. We got our girls at the HMB feed and fuel great helpful staff. Actually am trying to get back today for more supplies. Our coop is coming next week, thank goodness, they grew very fast.
