Maybe some questions are better off asked in PM's rather than the open forum. Of course look at all the fun you've given everyone; at your expense of course.

I think it's a fascinating idea. Since I have limited coops, I can not keep all the roosters I would like. But would like to have the option of breeding certain hens to another breed I don't keep.

And I can;t keep any roosters at all, so this sounds like an interesting topic for me too....

I'm not sure whats going on with my posts...but some are showing up blank! Sorry everyone! Anyway! Thanks for the info on the Rhino labels.
.you are so right! Reasonable pricing!
It happens with some posts--it is probably something to do with the device used to post.

Are you hatching and incubating in the same incubator? If so, wait until you hear chirping or you see the first pip to raise humidity.

Remove the turner during hatch and then return it after the hatch. The extra humidity for a couple of days will not hurt them. You do not need to raise the screen.

I have done several staggered hatches with my Genesis. At lock down for the first set of eggs, I leave the turner in the incubator but remove several of the egg racks. I place the oldest eggs large end up in trimmed paper egg cartons inside of a clear plastic produce container that has a lid and ventilation holes in it. I've used plastic tomato and grape containers from Costco. The container sits in the space where the egg racks were and in between the two side arms. The oldest eggs hatch in the container which makes clean up easier and the turner stays on for the younger eggs. The higher humidity for a few extra days has not caused any apparent problems with the second group of eggs.

You're ready to go Ron! We're all interested now. But could you imagine calling up a breeder and ask about this? I'm sure we'll get quite a few hang ups for a while. Oh and can you imagine the "Crazy 24 hour Chicken Auction for chicken sperm". oh my!

We may be banned from that one. I love this thread- it's the only place I know of that someone comes up with an idea like this…and we all hop on board! Great minds think alike I guess

I didn't candle at day 14. I will tomorrow. It will also be day 7 for the Seramas! I'll try to wait for a pip/chirping to add water. I have some Maran eggs in there so that's good info.

They are going to hatch in that same incubator.

I like the idea of leaving the turner in and removing some trays... Do you by chance have a picture of it?

I did read moving them from the turner to the wire can be too big of a temp drop and mess up the eggs at the last few days. I don't need to worry about that? Do I need to turn the heat up? And if I do leave the two rows with the Seramas on the turned then the temp would get too high for them if I do raise the heat?

Eggs hatch better at a slightly lower temperature. The rails pop out so it should be east to remove them.

Hey...when I was a Vet Tech, we used to get people in for this sort of thing with their dogs. We always drew straws to see which Tech had to do the "collection".
