I'm a huge fan of a little dirt in the brooder to build immunity

yes! my most recent batch of chicks, i pulled some grass outdoors and put it in their brooder, starting around 2 weeks or so -- they were entertained by picking at the soil, roots, and grass stems, and none have had ANY trouble cocci-wise, in contrast to some of my previous experiences.

I think they call those show girls, but I'm not sure.

YES! She is a non bearded bowtie. They just got accepted to the aba! ( the white bowties) they cruely changed the name to naked neck silkie, but no one used it because showgirl is fablous and nn silkie is sad and trashy.

This year we will have a showgirl bonanza. I shoud get white buff partridge and bbs in frilkie sizzle smooth and silkie feathers. I have a blue clean necked sizzle girl that is breathtaking if you go for that sort of thing, plus 2 frilkie roosters I have high hopes for!
To me they look like little old black women dressed up fancy for church in great hats and fur coats. My husband calls them the lawn ornaments!

We have family east of Stockton. they grow cherries, apples and nuts. Beautiful country, too bad it's next to Stockton.
