By how much do u think they would be delayed

I just looked at the instructions for my incubator and it sayd to keep the temp at 100
Dropping temps at night may lower the hatch. It should not be more than a day. If it was low enough to delay hatching by more than a day or so, then they may not hatch.

I hope they start pipping and hatching soon!

Are different breeds of chicken, harder or easier to hatch? I've had bad luck with these Orpingtons. Last time I had 2/6 and this time it looks like 3/8 (hopefully). These aren't shipped eggs. I had 6/7 with my own eggs (mixed).

Yes but orphs should not be terrible. Anything that looses moisture at a different rate can be tricky. Notorious eggs are marans silkies seremas. Chickens with a low genetic diversity Like isbars sweedish flower hens some colored english orphs husatacs (sp) fit in here. Some chickens have a gene thats lethal and will kill 25% to 50% of the embryos this includes auracanas short legged japanese and some golden colored coturnix quail.

We needed a little of the cold weather that the rest of the country has had.  Well maybe not that cold but cold enough to kill the buggies.  I bet it is going to be a bad year for fleas and flies, too!  I better put my order in for fly predators!

You should 100% have black solider flies. It would make a tremendous difference for you and you are close enough to our climate youd be able to grow them 9 months out of the year. Feed them to the breese for tastier chicken.

I know of 3 to 5 Hens that have died form mites this year.

We need to take it seriously and they do come from the environment. You are doing the right thing by treating the coop as well as the chickens.

Mites and flea are crazy! My inside grow out quail bedding got mites in it! I had to dump and scrub and im going to remove everything from the office and permethryn my carpet this week. I handle the quail every day and did not notice any bugs on them but when I did a major bedding clean sheesh!!

The cocci is also terrible this year. I have had 3 people loose chicks to it ( and this is with me telling people to eatch and sending them home with corid if they dont have it. I did a cocci care pack for people this year.) And 2 people call me who had grown hens pooping blood on deaths door freaking out. Corid has worked for everyone but one girl who has had to resort to sulfadimethoxine.

Huzzah!

Crissy is coming for a visit and to drop off ducks! I am hoping cotton top will do her broody poo now while I can clean it and not while I have company!

The Pita Pintas hatched well the first time I hatched them--They were the farthest "shipped" eggs that I have hatched too. The Basque eggs hatched better though.

Hybrid vigor for the mixed chicks though.

lizanne: Yes different breeds are harder to hatch. Different lines of the same breed too. It is often a sign of in breeding but it can also be a function flock health and even egg size. Eggs over 72G are harder to hatch.

Tell me more about the hatche. What was the number of clears. When did they die if they developed? What was their condition when they hatched, ie: sticky, yolk not absorbed? Big abdomen where the yolk was absorbed?

What day did they hatch on and how long was the hatch? A healthy flock will hatch over day 21 and take 24 hours to hatch.
Most of the issues I've had with them seem to be day 19+. I've had most with partial to full yolks absorbed, but many seem to be mal-positioned. The eggs are very big though. I'll weigh one in a little bit. At this point I have one that hatched last night (in one of the smaller Orp eggs), one is pipped, and one is rocking. -day 21 was at 9 this morning. The Orp that already hatched was the first egg to pip, and took close to a full 24 hours to hatch.

Ron how long should i wait before i start opening the egg a little? I havent heard any chirping and havent seen any rocking of ghe eggs. Could they have died?

Wait until day 22 or 23 for that. It is a last ditch effort so you have to wait until the very last!

Quote: We had that good hard freeze for about 3 nights in a row back in early December. I'm hoping that killed off a lot of the Yellow Jackets (Meat Bees) we get every summer here in the foothills. The I'm not counting on being gone though...they were buzzing around the coop just a few weeks ago before this rain started.
