yeah it's... weird that's for sure :/ Gross... I don't know what else it would be. Its got the sticky cisitency oa a very runny yolk and its an yellowish greenish brown as it would have been exposed to air for a while.

Did you take any pictures? I've seen the yellowish/greenish/brown before in chicks and ducklings that had too high a humidity. One way to tell for sure would be to look at it's belly... If it absorbed the yolk the belly will be nice and round, but it yolk is what you saw, it will look *very* empty.

This picture shows what a belly with an absorbed yolk should look like. Unfortunately, this chick was malpostioned, shrink-wrapped and died before it could pip internally.

Chick pics! They've all had their first outside playtime! The dog kept watch the whole time, of course. The chicks love my dog and will follow her around the yard.

They came inside for a few minutes, and the little Buff Polish was cold and trying to cuddle under the Black Copper Marans. She was literally underneath her big sister, which you can see in these pictures.

Brother and sister?

I wasn't overly excited about my mom getting Black Copper Marans, I didn't really care either way. But I have to say that the one we think is the little girl(the one with more feathers) has grown on me very quickly, she's probably my favorite of the 4 I'm brooding right now. She jumps on my hand every time I put it in the brooder. She is already starting to hit that awkward half-feathered stage that I love.

Pretty copper tips on her wings.

Takeoff!

they are very pretty!

I hope the chick is a She. Often the friendly ones like that wind up being a cockerel and that breaks you heart!

Thanks Kathy!
Ron, Thanks. I hope she's a girl, too! It's looking like it. Of the 2 Black Copper Marans, one is very feathered and the other only has just the start of wings. And the one that has barely any feathers is even slightly bigger than the one with a lot of feathers. People on here told me that girls will often feather out faster than boys, so it looks like we have one boy and one girl. I'm hoping it's true, fingers crossed! I would be very sad if it was a boy.
