I have a broody serama hatching 6 eggs. Is it okay to leave them with her without a heat lamp? Or should I separate her and use a lamp?

Is she big enough to cover all the chicks? My seremas have been terrible mothers and I have lost chicks. if they are tiny tiny I might ad a lamp if she is having issues.

Serema eggs do better if you can hand turn them I have been told. I would not do anything over 70 humidity for anything just not enough o2 for the eggs.

Good morning! This has been an awesome chicken weekend so far.

Yesterday, we processed all the extra roos running around our friends' farm. I'm not sure what the final count was because there were other people there processing some of their own chickens. I also sold 4 Bresse laying pullets to Ron's chicken farmer friend, Jeremy. We enjoyed a great talk about chickens, hogs, goats, cows, sheep, etc. It was nice to meet a young man so committed to farming. George wants to buy a sheep or two from him for meat. So, we narrowed our Bresse flock down to 2 cockerels and 8 hens. The Bresse boys get one more chance to show that they can be respectful. We processed one cockerel who flogged me from behind and then wouldn't give up. That earned him top spot on death row. He attacked George when he went into the pen to get him. He was even more nasty than his father. The 2 boys that we kept are big and beautiful plus showed no signs of aggression even when I picked up their girls.

In addition to the Bresse and misc mixed breed cockerels, we processed our first Pita Pinta. He was 31 weeks old and weighed 4.4 lb processed. We should have processed all these boys several weeks ago but with the rain, etc we put it off. I was pleased with their weight, though. Almost all of them were between 4 and 5 lb and we had a couple of them that were around 5.5 lb.

Today, we are headed to Placerville and meeting two thread members to hand off chicks. Then we are spending the day with our friends. They have a hydroponics set up that George is interested in. On the way home, we will be picking up some black Langshans from a BYCer in that area and dropping them off at the farm. Hmmm....is there anything else chicken that I can fit into the day?!!

Jeremy is great!

Thanks for getting the Bresse to him.

Did he get to see your Pita Pintas? My breeding trio will be headed to his place soon.

Good news on the size of the Pita Pintas!

No, he didn't see my Pita Pintas because they are still here in town with me. He did look at my Langshans and really liked them!
