Good morning! This has been an awesome chicken weekend so far.

Yesterday, we processed all the extra roos running around our friends' farm. I'm not sure what the final count was because there were other people there processing some of their own chickens. I also sold 4 Bresse laying pullets to Ron's chicken farmer friend, Jeremy. We enjoyed a great talk about chickens, hogs, goats, cows, sheep, etc. It was nice to meet a young man so committed to farming. George wants to buy a sheep or two from him for meat. So, we narrowed our Bresse flock down to 2 cockerels and 8 hens. The Bresse boys get one more chance to show that they can be respectful. We processed one cockerel who flogged me from behind and then wouldn't give up. That earned him top spot on death row. He attacked George when he went into the pen to get him. He was even more nasty than his father. The 2 boys that we kept are big and beautiful plus showed no signs of aggression even when I picked up their girls.

In addition to the Bresse and misc mixed breed cockerels, we processed our first Pita Pinta. He was 31 weeks old and weighed 4.4 lb processed. We should have processed all these boys several weeks ago but with the rain, etc we put it off. I was pleased with their weight, though. Almost all of them were between 4 and 5 lb and we had a couple of them that were around 5.5 lb.

Today, we are headed to Placerville and meeting two thread members to hand off chicks. Then we are spending the day with our friends. They have a hydroponics set up that George is interested in. On the way home, we will be picking up some black Langshans from a BYCer in that area and dropping them off at the farm. Hmmm....is there anything else chicken that I can fit into the day?!!
Sounds like a busy and exciting day! Hope you have tons of fun!!

I know, this picture to me was the "OMG, is it dead?" I hate when chicks sleep so soundly, they always give me a startle.

That's what I thought too!!!!!

I am fortunate enough that deann is letting me borrow her dicky while she decides what to do with it. This is it compared to my current humidair.

It is like a silkie compared to a muscovy! My electric bill is happy just looking!!!

I am hatching UofA Blues. They take so long to hatch! The first two hatched on Friday afternoon. One for just hatched and thee more just pipped this morning. Day 21 was Friday too. I also have UofA blue x Crele Pene in with them and all 6 hatched by yesterday.

Cute little guys though!
