New ducking:) first to hatch and was getting lonely. So, my kids are babysitting, untill the brooder is ready and it has some siblings hatched. 3 are pipped and one is almost hatched.
Very cute, what is it? -Kathy
It should be a silver apple yard, but I learned that some hatch out " dark". We got the eggs to hatch for a kindergarden class, but of course they are hatching over the weekend. The ducklings will get to visit the class during the day next week. Trisha

I am hatching UofA Blues. They take so long to hatch! The first two hatched on Friday afternoon. One for just hatched and thee more just pipped this morning. Day 21 was Friday too. I also have UofA blue x Crele Pene in with them and all 6 hatched by yesterday.

Cute little guys though!
I was really impressed with the size of those eggs! Maybe big chicks are lazy?

I am fortunate enough that deann is letting me borrow her dicky while she decides what to do with it. This is it compared to my current humidair.

It is like a silkie compared to a muscovy! My electric bill is happy just looking!!!

Now that's the way to get a job done! I have 3 styrafoam bators and farmed out eggs to 3 places. I wouldn't need one all the time though. I just ended up with a surplus on accident. Normally 1 bator does the trick. My goal is to stick with just 1 40-egg bator and that way control the obsession. It's going real well so far

Tough job that!

So I'm picking up 7 new chicks tomorrow. They'll be less than a day old, I'm getting them the day they hatch. Do they need to be quarantined first, or can they be put with the 2 or 3 week old chicks I've had for over a week now? The chicks I have now all seem to be very healthy.

The first two times I hatched them, they were shipped so I thought it was shipping stress. This is the fourth hatch this year of the UofA Blues and each one has been like this.

They are very healthy too!

i would be concerned with the size difference as they can be trampled. 1 week is fine . 2 weeks probably ok as long as they are over a week and can get around good

Yesterday we had a busy day and I ended up staying home from church. Broke out in shingles again last week (the doc's decided maybe I DID need the anti-viral meds after all, hooray, they are working!) and discovered this morning that I'm still not up to snuff. So I stayed home and the house is quiet! My first chance in DAYS to read posts of different threads. It has been a lovely morning

My DH and the almost finished grow-out pen. For birds 4 - 8 weeks. Retrofitted a rabbit cage. Used an 8' pallet for wall pieces. Run is 2' x 8' and also extends under the cage.

It's not 100% critter proof but we have a LPD and this is right next the garage where a floodlight shines with the flick of a switch. We have used this cage for a couple years with no invasion. I think it will be fine. My boy, @Coopcommander built the ramp.

He also made a sign in anticipation of his project. Having fun using a router, freehand

And this... Our favorite breakfast maker convinced us she was serious about being a broody! We took her eggs away all week. She faithfully warmed the empty bucket so on Friday we added some eggs! I hope she makes it through. We all really want the experience of watching a momma hen.

I like to make sure babies are past the delicate stage before putting in with older birds. Once they are zipping around good they do fine. Just recently our brooder had 1 wk, 2.5 week and 4 wk babies. About 50 total. They were fine but I wouldn't put any newly hatched with that melee!
