lol! yeah, they look a bit odd in the IT dept...

LOL, I know this one well. I've taken an incubator with me on vacation before. I was going to a resort on the Oregon coast and bought a converter for the power plug in the car. The incubator was the last thing loaded into the space saved for it on the back seat and the first thing unloaded and brought up to the third story room. It was a 2-bedroom condo, so the incubator got it's own bedroom. During the 10+ hour drive, we took turns stopping at the "rest areas". I knew the incubator would hold temperature for a few minutes, but I had the "what if" for some reason the engine wouldn't restart. So someone was always in the car with the engine running. The one stop for fuel, I figured there would be enough people around for a jump start if necessary.

It was fun to have eggs along and be able to candle them during the trip.

I've taken all sorts of things to work with me, puppies that needed to be bottle fed, finches that needed hand feeding.............it's amazing what you can keep under your desk!

Good luck with them.

Thank you! I hadn't thought of that!

You are welcomed. That is always my first suggestion for people out of my range to help. The hunt is part of the fun......Good luck with your search. Poultry shows are a good place too maybe you know someone that has an exhibitors list from a show near you that they went to. You can also check on line for the club associated with the breed you are searching for & check their breeders list to find someone near you.

I am at my daughter's next door to me right now but am getting ready to go back home. This morning I woke up to chicks. There are at least 4 of the Mottled Japanese from Chooklet that she gave me the eggs at the Youth poultry show in Modesto 3 weeks ago & at least 4 BCMs from my own eggs the darkest layers & some AMs too. At least these guys will have company to grow with. I will wait til later today & take my 4 year old grand son over & let him watch them through the clear viewing window on top. He will be so excited..................LOL
I hope there are more coming. I actually candled these with my new candler & took out all clears & quiters.

If you are able to do this successfully I would love a little tutorial. I had to but my really old Hovabator (too old to have a model #-instuctions are from 1993) back into service because the Genesis I ordered from GQF last Wednesday did not actually go out until yesterday even though I received tracking info on Friday. I don't know if it would have even gone out Monday if I had not called them again (GEEZ!!) The eggs I had to set would have been no good by Friday so I fired it up and got them set yesterday. I will transfer them as soon as the Genesis gets here ans stabilizes. The old one has the wafer and is a still air, but I hat to throw it out. I am a bit challenges about retrofitting, especially if it is with parts not designed for the incubator.

sorry for such a late reply,
seems like i can not keep up with this treat haha,
last night i was messing with the STC-1000 with just a light bulb as the heating element, i was NOT able to make the light bulb turn on , soo back to the drawing board, i found a picture online, about bridging the heating element with the power , so i will play with it tonight again, once i have the light bulb turning on and off at the correct temp, i will then cut./ splice the heating element of the hovabator, and i will keep my fingers crossed it should work :)

Quote: You are in Modesto, aren't you? Monet and I are taking a field trip there tomorrow to meet Karen & Sandy at Nasco. I have some 1 week old chicks that are very sweet. One is a Pita Pinta who must have hatched from a pullet egg. She is small but chubby & growing. I also have some Pita Pinta/Cream Legbar mixes that will lay green eggs if they are pullets.
