A Black or Blue UofA Blue X CLB pullets should produce Sex Linked chicks. I have CCL(Crested Cream Legbar) X Crele Penedesenca and they are sex linked Olive egg layers. We call the Amelias because they love to fly!
Im really interested in the blue eggs. the sex link/auto sexing is just a bonus. (though a very nice one)

I think all chicks are cute, but something about the tiny little ones just melt your heart!

Cutest picture!

I'd be wanting eggs to hatch- Honest opinion: would they be ok for a hatching newbie or should I get a few (cheap) hatches under my belt first?
I was impressed with how well they hatched - even after shipping!

My husband is a help because "happy wife happy life". My son is a help because some chicken money went towards his motorcycle . He is now obligated to help with whatever is asked of him.
My daughter doesn't' do chickens.

The dogs on the other hand are wonderful.

Our dog is in disgrace because he ATE chicks!!!!

He is normally wonderful too - I guess he just couldn't resist tiny tasty morsels.
It looks more like calcium deposits. Porous eggs have light coming out of the "pores"

Very interesting! I never paid enough attention to notice the difference.

Was reading that a cross with CLB would be very good.

You've already got the mad chicken scientist mentality.

Bwahahaha - mixing chickens - so fun and no test tubes required (normally). We've a few that take mad chicken scientist to entirely new levels

Ok another breeding question comes to mind. If you have a breeding trio how do you effectively know which hen laid the eggs since they will likely lay eggs together. Or do you have to be on top of it when you are collecting a hatch.

:yesss:  They can take a long time to hatch so be very patient with them. The last hatch was over two days!

I will. Just 1 of 12 is pipped so far. I set them on a Fri night so they are a day & 1/2 early now. I was thinking the heat spike last week might have helped them go faster. Oh & they're under a broody too.

The chicks they hatched with all got kicked out to the brooder in the garage. The AC are still living in the house, I was afraid something might happen to them. I'll probably keep them indoors until they are ready to move into their own run outside. They are growing like weeds, quite inquisitive and active. I'll need to update their pictures, but they are certainly going through a yucky chick feather stage, LOL

Well you couldn't get a way with it with Hawaii, but I took a vacation to Oregon and brought an incubator with me in the back seat of the car. I wanted to monitor the eggs and was going to be gone a week.

The tray I just set was in my 380 egg Brinsea cabinet................it's not the only tray in there, LOL

Wow, I don't even sell them for that much, maybe I'm underselling myself.

Do you have a good idea on the genders of your AC now? Or did I miss the announcement?
Sigh... I just found a well hidden Muscovy nest with 5 hatched, 10 pipped and 2-3 more that haven't pipped! What in the heck am I going to do with another 15 ducklings?

That's the opposite of a problem! (Surprise ducklings are super awesome when you're not the one who has to find space/homes for them).

My incubator was in Minnesota when the shipping last updated ten hours ago. Hurry up!

Quote: Good luck there Ron!

I always took my dog with me when I heard the alarm call, and told her to go search. She's chased off enough critters for me - raccoons, skunks (unfortunately she's not smart enough to NOT get sprayed), a bobcat and a fox. Now she barks at me when she hears the alarm call. She totally trained herself, but it sure is handy to have.

Yeah I've had similar experiences with my family. (Not chicken related though).
Yeah.......lets face it not all our families are chicken lovers like we are. My family isn't really on board "chicken wise" but do a lot just to help me. They certainly came through to help with the party.

I have UofA blue eggs pipping! Yay!
Good deal Lisa.................They are on my wish list too but I am busy with other breeds for the time being. I added so many from the party & now with incubators full..........LOL

Sometimes even within a breed you can tell the eggs one from another. My 2 B/W AMs hens who were my best blue egg layers still had a difference & I could tell their eggs apart. On was slightly lighter than the other & slightly smaller. If not I guess you would have to separate them or mark their vent with food dye to make one of the eggs. I am sure you will get others to chime in.

You gotta watch out for that food dye. It will spread

Any tips on selling eggs for eating? I've been trying to sell my extra eggs to help cover some of the feed costs for my hens, but have no takers. Not sure where all to advertise...
