California - Northern

Yay, I just sold 14 more hens. That's about 40 hens and 15 roosters I've moved out in the last week.

There are 8 hens and one more rooster schedule to go this next week and a few possible sales pending.

Emptying some pens is a GOOD feeling! Less work, less feed, less noise and all the rest that goes with an extra 65 or so adult chickens.

Hello!! I am the worst BYC member lol! I drop off the face of the earth for months! I need some help with quail.

I bought a Hovabator Genesis a couple months ago directly from the manufacturer. It came with Bobwhite quail eggs I thought nothing of them and popped them in the bator when they arrived. It did NOT even occur to me that maybe I would need a permit or something? I don't know what kind they are- it just says Bobwhite on their site. They are NOT located in Cali. So I assume they aren't Cali strains? I will call Monday though to verify. They are hatching right now. I thought I would hatch them for fun, then sell them off. I'm not sure I want to raise Bobwhites anyway. But if I need a permit...then I couldn't sell them off so that means I'm stuck with 23 (assuming all that made it to lockdown actually hatch). I'm trying not to freak out. I'm hoping someone in here can enlighten me. :D

They are the cutest little things though!
Yeah, what Ron said. I almost got some Valley quail last year, they would have required a permit and super excitable. The cots are so sweet.

Congrats! It is going to quiet at your place!

I just finished my last hatch of the season. 6 guineas for a friend and 5 Mottled Am. The one with the unabsorbed yolk did not make it. So only 6 of the 36 shipped eggs hatched, but at leasty all of them are mottled. It will take me 2 days to get everything cleaned up and stored from hatching. But it will be a relief....until next January.

hooray! i've been doing the same thing, except on a smaller scale -- three 2-year-old hens went to a colleague's house to start a flock, five juvenile boys went to the feedstore, and today six teenagers (five pullets plus one cockerel) went next door to join my neighbor's flock. making room for some new chicks!

I'm afraid DH may have done in the Silkie eggs running the whole house fan the last couple of nights:hit
One was peeping at me 2 days ago but when I got back from doing growers market and didn't see pipping I candled, no movement in it or the other 3. I haven't checked the Maran egg yet.

I so need to do that too. I am sending my BBS Orps to a new home soon. A friend wanted a flock & I will be able to get back hatching eggs whenever I want them. It's a win win situation for me I think. 6 less is a start.

Every time a group of roosters leaves, I can feel a pressure off my shoulders. Today was all girls, but that's a lot of egg songs. Since I'm feeding DOZENS of eggs back to the chickens, I don't really need all that laying going on here. Expensive way to come up with chicken feed
