Thanks. My mom gasped when I told her I would charge $4/dozen when they are all laying well. But my mom also does not understand the purpose to eating fresh, natural, organic etc is. She lives of Cheetos, ice burg salads and cigarettes. ;) So she will pay $5+ for a pack of smokes per day/but not $4 for a dozen fresh eggs. It's all about priorities and those who do value fresh eggs from happy chickens will pay the $4. :D Worse case? I donate my surplus to a local lunch group that hands out free lunches on Wednesdays to homeless/needy. They always need hardboiled eggs. So if I end up with too much and can't sell them- they will make their way into some grateful persons tummy. ;)
that is good to donate surplus to locals. I tired that one year i had surplus before I really started seling. and they turned me down. they don't take fresh food. all they want it store canned food. not even some extra jam i made.

Wow! Weird. Tomorrow I am taking about 50 pounds worth of dog food I bagged into 4 cup and 8 cup portions. If I brought boiled eggs or 50 pb&j sandwiches she'd be thankful. That's so sad!

Combs don't seem to get better, only worse. If they are funky now, they'll stay that way. What exactly do you mean by funky? If I remember correctly, your boys had too many points on their combs. That definitely won't change (at least without another rooster pecking off a point

) But it's also not a HUGE deal at a show, just a small deduction.

This pen was being sold by a 27 year old girl. Her mother bought the pen for her a year ago for her dog, but she thought the pen was too small so she didn't use it. I think her mother will kill her when she finds out how much she asked for it.

The pen was literally like brand new. I can usually help carry pen panels, these are too heavy for me to even hold up my end of a panel. This is truly the best pen I've bought. Someone else has the exact same pen on CL right now, $375 FIRM.

Oh no I am hanging on to Samson and Copper (their combs are not show perfect but they are clean looking). The combs on some of the cockerels...they do not have well defined points? Is that how you say it? They look more like a comb with blobby points - they aren't right at all. I think out of all 8 BCM cockerels I have only 3 have clean looking combs- the rest just look smashed or something. Just not clean and upright.

Ummm yay for YOU though! haha!

Free range question...for those of you that have more than 2 coops for 2+ breeds- do they know which coop to go back into? Or do you make them take turns free ranging? Or they just go into whatever coop and you don't care as long as they don't?
If you want your eggs to be pure, then you will want to rotate free range time. If you let them run together, you'd have to separate and then wait 3-4 weeks for them to be pure.

We homeschool too. Makes us extra weird. :p My family although they giggle- respect our choices so I have that!
Guess I'm weird too. I homeschool my oldest (12) - he asked me in 5th grade to homeschool him. So I did for 6th last year and now we're starting on 7th. My youngest isn't homeschooled yet, but probably will in another year or so. (he's 4th grade right now) He fights too much with his brother right now.

Hey everyone! I've had family in town so I haven't been on the boards much. But its been a real long week. Thank God the smoke has stopped. I cam finally see the outline of the mountains again! :D I figured you guys and gals might Like to see some cute little chickies early this morning. These are the chicks from my first incubation last week. They are Rhode Island Red x Dorking/Americuana. They really are some of the coolest chicks I've had so far. They are super docile, I guess since I hatched them myself they are used to seeing me since the cracked out of their shells. Their coloring on the back and wings is really neat. I can tell the take a lot from the fathers genes. I'm gonna keep a couple but I'm lookih for homes for the rest of them (hint hint) Have a good morning everyone!

I'm a weirdo too. My son was homeschooled ...it worked out great for us.
My daughter goes to public school. That works for her.
