California - Northern

I have decided I really need to process more often. I really like the flavor of the chickn & have a friend that just loves to take it home & make chicken & dumplings when I do process. It is pure laziness & poor time management that causes me not to do more of it. I end up taking my grown out cockerels to the auction in Modesto & usually get $10, $12 & $15. each for them but there is a 30% commission charge. It is better than keep feeding them if I am not going to get around to processing them though. That much less to feed.
I had some lady call yesterday & ask if I had any $2 chickens?????? I certainly would eat them if that's all I could get. I would give them away to friends & other BYCer before I sold them for that......LOL
I processed two yesterday morning. It was a bit more work because I plucked out some feathers before scalding them so that my Oldest DD could use them for Jewelry.

These were the last two Marraduna Basque cockerels and they were very pretty feathers....

I am now officially Rooster Free!

Hey everyone! I've had family in town so I haven't been on the boards much. But its been a real long week. Thank God the smoke has stopped. I cam finally see the outline of the mountains again!

I figured you guys and gals might Like to see some cute little chickies early this morning. These are the chicks from my first incubation last week.
They are Rhode Island Red x Dorking/Americuana.
They really are some of the coolest chicks I've had so far. They are super docile, I guess since I hatched them myself they are used to seeing me since the cracked out of their shells. Their coloring on the back and wings is really neat. I can tell the take a lot from the fathers genes.

I'm gonna keep a couple but I'm lookih for homes for the rest of them (hint hint)

Have a good morning everyone!
They look Great!

Shoot...lost all my multi quotes!

Here's what I can remember...Ron, you seem to be enjoying the quiet. I sold two WCB Polish a couple of weeks ago, SOOO much quieter!

Papa Brooder....why can't I remember your name??? Jim? Love your BLRW! They look like characters! They light brown egg layers?

Deb, you're the queen of good deals on Craigslist!

Sorry if I missed anyone!

Here's some pics of my Polish chicks that hatched last week. My EE in the barn who was only hatching rotten eggs (I think she didn't manage the heat well) finally hatched one of the 9 eggs I gave her that was started from my other EE, who I gave excess from the Polish! HUH? Anyway, here's some the Polish and one of the EE's with her chicks.
Do you think she wonders why they have funny heads?

WCB Polish or maybe Chocolate?

Polish Broody with some of her chicks

Hardly a trace of smoke here today and yesterday. We went on the lake for the day and enjoyed the amazingly beautiful, smoke free day!

Quote: He was really unhappy there. The only thing that kept him going was GATE, and the school discontinued it. (to teach them how to use powerpoint and use facebook

) So he was bored, and spending his recesses in the library. I suspect there was some bullying going on too - my son isn't into competitive sports and in 4th and especially 5th, you really see the "clicks" with the sports kids.

He absolutely loves being homeschooled and his STAR test scores are higher than they were at public school. So it's obviously working for him, which is all that's important.

I didn't like high school either.

I have an app on my phone that sends a push anytime there is something on my list from CL. Speaking of it, everyone keep an eye out for my perfect cabinet incubator for 200 bucks! :D

ALLL our chicken stuff not from Osh was from CL. Except the feeder bottoms...
I am going to have to start checking CL more eften. i am looking for something not sure yet. I want to be able to put my young chicks in there own space, but they are not old enough to be put in with the bigger hens. some kind of dog run. i still have them in the "nursery coop" but they are out growing that. I will have to look more on CL see if i can find something, LOL :)
