I processed two yesterday morning. It was a bit more work because I plucked out some feathers before scalding them so that my Oldest DD could use them for Jewelry.I have decided I really need to process more often. I really like the flavor of the chickn & have a friend that just loves to take it home & make chicken & dumplings when I do process. It is pure laziness & poor time management that causes me not to do more of it. I end up taking my grown out cockerels to the auction in Modesto & usually get $10, $12 & $15. each for them but there is a 30% commission charge. It is better than keep feeding them if I am not going to get around to processing them though. That much less to feed.
I had some lady call yesterday & ask if I had any $2 chickens?????? I certainly would eat them if that's all I could get. I would give them away to friends & other BYCer before I sold them for that......LOL
These were the last two Marraduna Basque cockerels and they were very pretty feathers....
I am now officially Rooster Free!
