Mine are about 3 months old I believe. Hatched in April sometime. They are just determined to get everything they can find at all costsThey do fly well. They seem to eat everything but then most of my chickens do.
They have an excellent feed to egg ratio, AKA Feed Conversion, of course. They lay a lot of eggs!
How old are yours? I do not remember when they hatched.

My Bresse hen made an amazing mom! I was happily surprised. The Bresse rooster tried to kill them though. I stayed to watch and thankfully I did.She might accept them later tonight.
It is silly when they sit on eggs for weeks and then do not want the babies....
Isn't your new boy related to him? I am excited you have some amazing birds. Will you be showing in the next few seasons? You really should!! And I miss talking with you my friendSadly none of my chickens are related to iggy and his extraordinary gene.
All.were.lost in the great fox attack. Now that I know more aboit chickens genetics I am completly flabbergasted by iggys offspring. He passed the hook gene onto 97% or so of his male offspring. And almost never to his female chicks. But how is that possible when his gene have nothing to do with sex? Its a mystery.
I still miss him Josephine and ester. Theu were my first showgirls.

Pretty eggs Ron!
I'm sorry, but it happens sometimes. My Easter Hatch, I lost 2 chicks - sometimes they just aren't strong enough. I hope you had a great time in Hawaii!Thank you everyone. Unfortunately, the chick was dead when I got home a few minutes ago.![]()
I'm glad you all think it's so funny, these broodies are driving me bonkers!Quote:Ditto!
Speaking of broodies, my newest broody Barnevelder (#9 Broody this year), keeps trying to steal the other broody Barnevelder's eggs that are due to hatch Wed. I guess she doesn't want to do the work to sit for 3 weeks first. I've got to give her the eggs I've collected tonight to hopefully keep her off the other broodies nest! Nothing but DRAMA in the chicken coop.

They are coming along!Well the other night we saw feathers flying out of the coop at bedtime. I went out to check and lo and behold 2 of my delawares were up on the high roost with the buffs.
I recently added a larger lip to the nest box because they will be laying eggs soon and they had been kicking the shavings out. I also that day had added 3 golf balls to the box.
I don't know if the 3rd non blind del made it to the roost but she wasn't in the box yet but Lurk(the half blind one) was perched on the lip of the box. I have a lower roost for her because she doesn't jump or fly very well and don't want her to hurt herself. She could use the low roost as a ladder if she really wants up high.
The 2 on the roost were still trying to sit on each other though it was kind of funny.
Now just to get rid of those 4 fosters. Anyone interested?
