California - Northern

My foster buffs orps are now 14 weeks old and in serious need of a new home. I let them into the run (had to tempt them out with watermelon) and no real fighting broke out. Some short squabbles among themselves. The only ones to pick on them were the other buffs. I guess it is a right of passage thing

I would really like to get rid of them my CL add went nowhere. What is a reasonable price for such birds?
Hi Chris!

Is there a small animal auction near you? There is one in Roseville that runs each Sunday. There may also be a Rooster Rescue and some Feed Stores will take them for you.

Pullets should go for ten to fifteen dollars. Cockerels as low as five dollars.

Do you have pics of your oldest PP's now? Im pretty sure I have boys but I think you have some around the same age as mine so Id like to compare. Maybe @PetRock can come by and take a look at mine. Ill have to try and get pics tonight about my CLB and Delaware development too.

I will get some pictures of the tonight. I have one pullet and two cockerels from that hatch. The latest hatch is week and a half old so I cannot tell with them yet.

The boys get much bigger quickly in both size and comb development.

Hello all,
Crazy summer here! Discovered I was almost 2,000 posts behind. Well I am just skipping them :)

Thrilled to say that I've finally learned to hatch the difficult SFH. That feels like a major accomplishment! Also our CCL are hatching out heavy on the girl side. One hatch I had 7 girls and 2 boys (10 eggs @ lockdown so I'm still not at the elusive 100% hatch!). Recently we had 5 boys out of 11 chicks. That is really fun to hatch and see what you get right away! I'm now thinking of all the different sex link chickens I can do.

And @ronott1 this photo is for you. The EOB you sold me is still up and kicking (literally, he is afraid of everything, when I toss fruit in the pen he attacks it) and now we have chicks. Lots of little round - chubby!! - chicks. We are just loving how chunky they are and how well they hatch!

I ended with 3 boys and 1 girl in the eggs I bought. the boys seem to be of 2 different color patterns though.

That is great to hear!

I will be watching closely to see what you get. This is the addition of new Genes to the EO Marraduna Basque line.

I may ask for some hatching eggs from you.

The small animal auction only runs on the first and third Sunday of the month. Wouldn't want anyone to haul down birds and have them not there................
If planning to go there, you will need to check a lot of things out.

Get there on time in the morning
you are expected to stay until the end of the auction
They pay in cash...and etc.

I would rather process them....

at the worst they will integrate into the flock. Right now im only 1 over my limit of 10 if I count the hen in the brooder. (the 6 cockerels are another matter maybe I can find a place to house them till they can be processed)

I've only taken birds down a couple of times in recent months.

If you go early, you drive in for free. If you go a bit later, you have to pay the parking fee to drop them off (a few dollars).

I've always dumped them and left, they mailed me a check.

Usually the birds I drop off are ones not worth my time to process, tiny bantams, etc.
