California - Northern

I ended with 3 boys and 1 girl in the eggs I bought. the boys seem to be of 2 different color patterns though.
I think it was Ron that told me the closer I got to 100% hatch, the better my odds should be of getting 50/50 boys/girls. Interesting tidbit that I'm hoping is true as I had a terrible run of roosters in the spring.

It is interesting you have 2 color patterns. The parent stock are unrelated. Even though all the CCL come from GFF, last year they imported some new stock & I'm pretty sure my cockerel is from that new line. The hens came from a local rancher. What you are seeing is probably the result of crossing 2 bloodlines - I don't totally know. I've noticed myself that the cockerels vary in shades and barring intensity. You will probably want to get an expert opinion (not me) on which one is the best to keep.

That is great to hear!

I will be watching closely to see what you get. This is the addition of new Genes to the EO Marraduna Basque line.

I may ask for some hatching eggs from you.

I'd love to know Tony's pedigree - right now we are just thrilled with the results - and of course you could get hatching eggs from me! I only have 2 hens so they don't add up fast. They lay like clockwork so it's not too bad saving for a dozen. I was able to get 3 hens & a cockerel off the previous pair (skyline/GFF). So when I breed those girls to Tony - will I have EOB from 3 distinct bloodlines?
What is an SFH? Swedish Flower Hen?

What is a CCL? Crested Cream Leghorn?

Why don't breeders interested in rare birds ever take up our American breeds? The Dominiques, the Buckeyes, the Javas?
I don't think it is related to earning a profit because fancy poultry is rarely profitable.
What is it?
Have you seen the Swedes? They are so, so lovely. That right there is my reasoning. Imagine "ooooh pretty birdies!" That's the extent of the thought process

CCL is Crested Cream Legbar. They are not as pretty as the Swedes but they lay blue eggs and are sexable at hatch. Imagine "ooooh pretty eggs!" That was the extent of THAT thought process

It might be that one seems to have more brown in him than the other 2. The girl however is wonderful and kind of a sweetie too.My favorite boy is the smallest though but his personality is so fun. I think he thinks he is a Delaware because the 2 of them are the first ones to my hand all the time.

Tony is second Generation directly from Spain.

You actually have two lines since GFF and Skyline both came from the Canadian flock. Tony is from the Original flock saved in the 1980s. He is from a Breeder that showed Pita Pintas, EO marraduna Basque and Penedesencas among other breeds.

Megan had information on the Breeder but I do not have it.

PM me details about getting hatching eggs.

Hi all,

I need to downsize to make room for some Broad Breasted white Turkeys that I would like to raise for our County Fair next year.

I have several cockerels, some laying pullets, and some bantams to rehome. So, if you are interested in any of these birds, or want to know more information, please PM me!

  • Bantams:
1 black Wyandotte bantam hen, 2 years old, breeder-quality.
4 f1 barred OEGB cockerel, all 3 months old. Possibly SQ.
1 PAIR of fawn silver duckwing OEGBs, 3 months old.
4 blue Ameraucana bantams, 4 months old. SQ.
1 mottled Japanese bantam cockerel, 3 months old.

  • Standard:
1 light Brahma cockerel.
1 Production red cockerel.
1 Production red pullet.
1 Australorp pullet.
Possibly more laying pullets.

I am still downsizing birds and I have the following that are going. Let me know if you're interested in anything.

Olandsk Dwarfs
Bantam Silver Laced Polish
Cream Legbars
White Legbars
Serama (frizzled and smooth - I think I'll only have cocks left)
Icelandics
Tomaru Longcrowers
Bantam Columbian Cochin (only two cocks left)
Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks
Slate & Royal Palm turkeys

I'm also going to thin out my silver & golden campines, lakenvelders and bantam barred rock pens.

I also have a few young miscellaneous laying hens.

Here are my olive Egger chicks. They are predominately white but have tiny flecks
700

of splash. The older one is a three-month-old in the grow up in same parents

@caychris

The Pita Pintas are 5 weeks old now. You can tell by the size of the combs and the size of the chicks that two are Cockerels and one is a pullet.
