California - Northern

Hey Mike, aka "monster clucker", did you ever find anyone/anywhere that will process chickens up here in the redding area? I've got about 8-10 ready to go and hoping to find somewhere local. otherwise, gonna have to have a processing party where I feed my helpers fresh chicken for dinner! :-)

I got 11 eggs today. that is a couple more then what I have been getting lately with them moulting. I hope egg production is going up now. I am going to clean out the straw in one side of the coop and put in river sand that hubby brought home. I am going to wait til it cools down a little. I wanted to do it this morning but some hens were laying already and didn't want to bother them. I need the eggs. and also a couple hens that have been nesting all summer the other day they brought out 3 chicks and now today hubby counted 5 chicks. few more eggs there I am going to just leave them alone and see what hatches.

Great news!

I know I haven't finished sorting pictures from the other day, but I already shrunk the ones from today. I was moving chicks from the brooder to the indoor growout pen, so they stopped for a photo shoot.

The Tolbunt Polish chicks.

The Silkie chicks.

This guy has indentified himself with his cocky attitude since he sprang out of the egg. Silkies are supposed to be difficult to sex, sometimes until they crow or lay an egg. I don't think there's a lot of question here.

What's up with this chick?
It's Black Copper Marans but obviously soooo not up to snuff. How in the world did he get a wheaten color? Bet his coloring turns out neat looking though. Boy or girl what do you think? None of my BCM pullets have red combs and wattles. The pullets so far have NO combs and the bumps they have are flesh colored. But this guy stands funny...

Yes, I was going to say beautiful creatures chickens.

Still great to see. It is amazing how many people think all chicks are yellow and all chickens look like Fog Horn Leghorn...

I have my first blue egg from my Americauna(yes a real one--buff) Dorking cross(please remember this was an accident) The egg is much bluer that the one laid by the Easter Egger I have.

The Rooster that I gave to Monsterclucker should have a very nice and fairly pure blue egg gene:

I can't wait to see what Mike's easter egger chickens lay...
