Hi everyone,

I have a handsome Blue Copper Marans chick that I'm 99% sure is a cockerel. I'm in the city (San Jose) and not allowed to have roosters. He's currently about 4 weeks old so I have some time to figure out what I'm going to do with him. Is there anyone in Northern California who would be interested in having him to add to their flock? If he's going to end up someone's dinner, then he'll end up my dinner, just thought I'd see if it's possible to rehome him first. He's the little guy out front in this photo.

I am in Santa Clara & I have had great success rehoming cockerels on craigslist. Good luck!

I have a question.... we are getting ready to build the nesting boxes, we want them to roll forward to a cover area we will build.... the question is,how much angle should we slope it? If anyone could tell me their opinion, I would be so grateful....

The surgery was a success! There are 4 parathyroid glands that are close to the thyroid, each one is the size of a grain of rice. The Surgeon found and removed a tumor on one that was the size of the last joint on your little finger.

That is a big one!

Her bone and joint pain is gone already. She can walk up the stairs, lift her leg to get into the car and can walk normally now. The other symptoms take longer to resolve. Some take a week or two, Mental slowness and neurological issues take a month or two. The Osteoporosis will be gone in about two years.

This is a serious problem that should never be watched. A blood calcium level above 10.2 is almost always caused by a tumor.

Hey all.
I have been away working on my fence at the bottom of my property below my chicken runs a half area garden area I finished and a half area extremely secure goat yard.
posts and t posts about 6 1/2 ft apart High Strength Hi tensile Fixed knot no climb ( this is the very best fencing you can get for your next chicken run ) fencing secure to concrete stakes.
concrete speed bumps under the gates and i ended up putting headers over the gates not in the pictures.

Why did I do all this?
This should keep the coyotes away from my next free ranging flock. also we got a few goats . Including Izzie our San Clemente Island Doe.
we are getting a boy to probably wether unless i want to deal with a building a buck pen.

Glad to see you back, Jason! You have been missed both here and on the 530 FB group. That fence looks like it would even keep a bear out!

If you are consistently in the upper 9s and low 10s, it is a good idea to have them test the pth level. I would with a 9.9. If the PTH is about 35 or so and calcium is 9.9 or so, then there is a very good chance of a tumor.

As calcium goes up in the blood, the parathyroid hormone should go down, so at 10 for calcium you would expect to see a 5 for pth. Also, calcium levels should always be within .2 up and down so you would expect to see something in the range from 9 to 9.4. If you see 9.9, then at the next test you see 10.7, that is likely a tumor since tumors cannot regulate the pth hormone. They just keep producing, and producing more all the time.

A PTH tumor can cause some symptoms of thyroid problems. There is a hormone that the thyroid releases to counteract the PTH and high calcium. It cannot compete with a tumor but it might over work the thyroid.
