update on chicks, mom is doing a great job, i saw yesterday 4 of the chicks sitting on her back, they are able to get into the coop on there own and i leave the door open for them, they are just getting out of the weird fethering stadge
That's great. Bet that is a cute sight to watch, too:)

anybody have chickens stop laying already for winter? this is my first year with my girls most are young pullets not laying except 1 she has been laying everyday for about a month and suddenly the past week no eggs? ive wondered if she wasnt eating enough but made sure food was never empty! provided extra calcium daily for when she wanted or needed it and they get enough but not too many treats. today my total daylight hours was 11hours 8 mins, are my eggs gone for winter? :( if so how would i add additional light to continue egg production?

The one that stopped may start back up and the others have about a week to start.

Adding lights will get them to lay more but you have to do it correctly.

My Dominique rooster needs a new home. These photos are a few months old. He is full grown now and has lovely plumage. He is really wonderful with his hens--we have a happy flock. But he has a thing with my four-year-old daughter, who likes to pick up the hens. Because the chickens free range in our back yard area where my daughter plays, it really isn't working out. If you have predators and are in need of a brave but gentlemanly protector, this is the guy for you. We live in Nevada City and need him to be picked up. He was hatched from good stock (Nantahala Farms), was hand raised and handled daily until a few months ago, and has been fed organic feed plus free ranged in our spray-free, forested yard daily. Please PM if you are interested, as I am not subscribed to this thread. Thanks.

@Scovy Momma Is the CL posting yours? I'm looking to add to my flock and would always choose birds from BYC members over someone else!

Oh no sweetheart! I just found it while I was scanning the pets section. Figured it wouldn't hurt to give those poor chickens more publicity for a home.
I am at a loss as to what to do with my Muscovy that just is not turning out to be as mellow a house duck as my first Muscovy. I think it's because he's not a female like my first. I was half heartedly looking if any hatching eggs were posted. :(

I hope you find a home for him!

I went to the breeders website and read their egg packing method...Shudder....tissue paper and egg cartons....When will breeders learn how to ship!

I bet when the eggs come smashed, they blame usps too.
