Hello all I live in Placerville area! (if you ever go to Tahoe via HWY50 you go right by me!)

I am just getting into the very first baby steps of raising quail: building an incubator this week hopefully and getting hatching eggs in 2-3 weeks.

Reading the last few pages of this thread I've seen that there's an outbreak of VND on the west side of the peninsula? Does anyone know of it reaching valley? I found a guy in east Sacramento who has fertile eggs for sale and I don't want to risk anything

Yikes! I'd say Sac is probably *okay* (lot of ag traffic through there), but I'll personally probably stop picking up birds or going near poultry zones in the valley or bay for the year until it's clearer what the actual risk for a larger outbreak up here is going to be.

(P.S. I am right up the road in the mountains even farther from ag zones, drive 50 at least twice a month, and also sell hatching coturnix eggs if you need a backup! Hopefully my first two hatching egg customers will be chiming in next week with results )

That would a life saver if I don't get them from him. I found him on CL so I'm not even sure what his setup is or how big his flock is....Do you know when you'll be coming through here next?

Does anyone know about CA laws/regs/legalities involving selling or donating chicken and quail eggs? I am trying to convince my aunt to free range chickens and I'm gonna do quail

If your are selling eggs, you can get a license from the state.
