Yes! I’ve found this thread! I’m in the SF East Bay. I want to get away from the big hatcheries and am looking for a true breeder who raises their own flock, and who breeds to standard, meaning that they cull properly.

I like Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, and would love to find Silver Laced Wyandotte’s. Any suggestions? I will drive 2 hours any direction. Looking for chicks and fertile eggs.
Welcome! You have picked some nice breeds

@ronott1

You wanted to follow my use of trace minerals for my girls -- I'm still giving the hens the liquid trace mineral supplements soaked in dry millet seeds/grain and they're doing fine -- I also give the girls dry vitamin supplements mixed with their non-GMO canned corn -- my vet always advises me when I leave his pet hospital that I give the girls added vitamins/supplements. Like everything else in moderation, of course. Occasionally I put a tiny portion of liquid selenium and vitamin E in their treats. That's in addition to their organic layer feed and the organic produce from our home garden of lettuces, chard, cukes, cantaloupe, and many other purchased organic seeds and produce we can't grow at home. Spoiled girls but they are not just poultry to us -- they are our family LOL! The heatwave started this week and the poor babies are panting -- they were due to lay today as they've been very prolific layers the last few months but our SoCalif heatwaves really interrupt their laying rhythm ugh!! We flooded their chicken yard today to roust out the earthworms and crickets for them to chase.

DH sifted their sandbox under their popup canopy this morning -- 2 Dominiques in back, little Partridge Silkie, and Cuckoo Breda in front outside the box

With our heatwave summer starting early this year and the Covid interruption I have no hope of ordering any new rare Breda this year. Plus the USPS will not ship live birds in 90 degree plus temps anyway.. From the national weather news while we're having heatwaves here, the Midwest will be experiencing rains -- crazy weather!

The weather is very odd!

We are at 85F today but tomorrow and friday are 93 and 95. We are supposed to go down to 79 one day next week though

Your flock looks good!

You might have to hatch some eggs but would then have to deal with the cockerels

Hi fellow NorCal-ians!

I have three day old chicks that I plan to move to the outdoor brooder with MHP on Tuesday! With our weather being all over the place, we have to make a few changes to the layout of our coops but we're almost all set!

I'm very happy to find a thread with people who are nearby:love
