Beautiful rainbow pic and really cute puppy pics. The one of Gracie teaching Katie how to track is heartwarming.

Overall, we are handling the rain very well here. I do have one issue- the nestboxes leak a little. These are the standard type, row nestboxes that you can open the lid from the outside. The rain leaks through where they are attached to the coop wall, between the hinges.

My husband says that he can't put flashing or sealer on there because then the lid won't open.

This type of nest box is so common. There must be an easy fix for this. Anybody know how to keep the rain out and still be able to open the lid?

Oh gosh! I hadn't even thought about that. It's ghetto but what about a tarp draped from the roof over it? Or some tin or comp roofing over the top so it hangs over all the edges - I guess the area around where the screws are would be hard....I hope to have outside nest boxes one day so I hope there is an easy fix for this!

I had that same problem with one of my pens. At HD, I bought some of that clear carpet runner like they use in a model home. They sell it on the huge rolls by the foot, it's very cheap. It is serrated at 6 inch intervals. I broke it into six inch lengths, then stapled it on the wall of the chicken house and let it drape at an angle onto the roof of the nest box. The part on the nest box is unattached, so it just slides back and forth when you lift the lid. It has worked very well.

If my description is clearer than mud, let me know and I'll go take a picture. The whole fix was a couple of dollars for a 3 ft nest box.

I have one that is leaking too, but it did not leak last year so it might have to to with the wind angle in this storm.

Absolutely!

She hasn't stopped laying since she started a few months ago, about 4 or five a week. Her tail feathers have been like this for at least a month, but from what I can tell, she hasn't lost any.

Has she been laying a while? My ducks that have been laying for a couple months are starting to look a little rough. But I read that was good. Means they are a good layer. lol

Are Wyandotte eggs the same color as Orpington eggs? I find it extremely odd that my Wyandotte hen has never laid an egg for me. Since my Orps are young pullets and laying small eggs- if the Wyandotte eggs are the same color as Orp eggs- then it's possible she is laying. But if not...then I don't know what's up. The breeder had said she was about a year old and she was molting in August when I got her. Nothing would be wrong with her right? She acts normal. 

I can always tell my Wyandotte's eggs because hers are much more elongated than my BR and my NHR. Hers are the top three in this photo.

I freeze two of the loaves. Fresh bread spoils faster than store bread. This is not usually a problem though.

No, it's really thick, like the thickness of a mat to go in your tub, but it's for carpet runner. This is it.

Funny you should ask about Bully Sticks. I had never heard of them before, but was using this box for my Leghorn pullet who spent a week in reeducation camp because she was, well, a big bully! She slept in there and laid eggs. Solitary confinement worked. She's back with the rest of the girls and things are much calmer now.

Oh, the box came from Costco.
