California - Northern

Yeah it is loud . I need to go open the coops but not looking forward to it. I think I will run
I love seeing the big cedars and ponderosa Pines sway in the wind. Good news no more leaves in the oak trees.

Mike sorry as well about the losses. I dont think a Hawk killed your Turkey though probably something else got him.

so up the hill open / check coops. My old coop leaks it is a probably one of the earliest coops known to man. I think either a cave man built it. ( well it looks that way) or something that was thrown together decades ago. so if the rain stops I need to clean it  out for sure.

Then back down here  warm with coffee by the fire

Hey Cooper! I have a leaky coop too. Idk if you ever saw the pictures I posted here some months ago. But I built a pallet coop. It's really sturdy but leaks like crazy. Im just gonna do what my grandma used to do. Wrap everything in a tarp lol
I think the Turkey did get snatched by a hawk. It was only a few weeks old and that was the month they were hitting us the hardest.

Morning everyone -

The downside of living in a heavily forested area - when the wind is blowing so hard that it sounds like a jet engine in your yard, it's hard to sleep without wondering if a tree is going to fall on you.  Especially with all this rain.

I need to go out and check on everybody, but I'm waiting for a bit and hoping it eases up some.  Havin' my coffee.

Monster - sorry you have also had losses.  A turkey, huh?

I just came in from letting all the birds out to free range. 1 of my 5 trees on my property are down, on the cattle fencing.
Thankfully none of your 1000's of trees up there didn't give out and stood strong!
Yea a poor little turkey poult got abducted when it was only a couple weeks old. Dumb Turkeys...

we are holding tight. after a wind and rain event or a early snow storm is the best time to drive around with a chainsaw for firewood...

I hope you and Molly and whoever else lives out that way are doing fine. It's pretty still up here in Anderson wind has stopped. And its just sprinkling now.

California - Northern was #7 for most posts yesterday!

Yes and we are getting close to 10,000 posts too!

I've seen a couple other people with Ft.Bragg as their location. I wouldn't be very worried because it is a big town.

oh yeah youngsters get snatched easily. A big Turkey can kill a hawk for sure. I know I need some more tarps. At this point I will go get one later once the rain slows and let everything dry after clean up. regardless if we get this house or not we are going to buy as soon as we can so I may just buy a coop even if we do not move for a few months and just move the coop.

30,000 are without power in the Sacramento area. I had my incubator hooked up to the battery last night along with a charger just in case the power went out over night.

All was fine here!

It is great to hear from you!

I am really starting to believe in the Atmospheric River. I was cooking Breakfast and suddenly it seemed like everything disappeared into water, like I was in a River!

Tracking say it is hitting Auburn now. Hold on up there!
Heavy rain ...don't mind it really I kind of like it in a way. Wind gusts....I could do without. Like the others, I'm grateful to still have power. Of course my opinion of the rain would change if I lost power. But I can't think like that, I don't want to jinx it..

That is funny to me... Fort Bragg being a big town :) I am from the San Francisco Bay Area originally and it seems so small town here. Actually I dont worry much about security here. I hadnt seen anyone from Fort Bragg here so am happy to hear there are some !

Ron - you are a hatching addict for sure if you have your incubator hooked up to a battery.

I'm very thankful our trees are still standing. We have a 200 ft tall ponderosa pine 20 feet off the back of our house.

Over 10 inches of rain so far for us in this storm. The ground isn't holding any more water - it's like a river outside. I made it out quickly to check on everybody - I came in soaked - had to change clothes.
